About the Department
The Section of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology provides care for patientsand families with acute and chronic medical conditions, or otherhematologic diseases, requiring the specialty knowledge and skills ofHematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation.
Job Summary
Administers the day-to-day clinical and research operations for thePediatric Hematology/Oncology/Genetic Predisposition programs. The jobuses best practices and knowledge of patients and exercises autonomousdecision-making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation ofdelegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes familysupport, discharge planning, staff education, consultation, andresearch. Resolves patient problems or refers patients to appropriateresources. Works with Clinical Care Coordinator to ensure that patientvisits and procedures are pre-authorized.
This position will be eligible for an alternative work arrangement.After completing one week of orientation; this position is eligible fora 4-day 10 hrs. per day, work week.
Responsibilities
Assess, evaluate, and assume accountability in delivering care tochildren, adolescents, and young adults with oncologic andhematologic diseases.Collaborate closely as a part of a multidisciplinary team to ensureoptimal patient care.Provide direct care to patients, in collaboration with consultingphysicians and the multidisciplinary health team.Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and recordthe data in EPIC.Educate patients and/or patients\' families on diagnosis, treatmentoptions, side effects of therapy, and supportive care measures.Interprets assessments, treatments, outcomes, work and disabilitystatus, and screenings in a thorough manner. Maintains clear andconcise records for individual and corporate clients to meet therequirements of the department, the company, and any applicablestandards or laws.Analyzes test data or images to inform diagnosis or treatment.Has a solid understanding of drug regimens and possible side effectsor interactions with other substances such as food supplements,over-the-counter (OTC) medications, or herbal remedies.Participates in counseling patients about prescribed therapeuticregimens, normal growth, and development, family planning, emotionalproblems of daily living, and health maintenance. Interpretspatient\'s condition quickly and concisely and determines the bestcourse of treatment. This can include ordering appropriatelaboratory or imaging studies, discussing the patient with theEmergency Physician, and/or referring the patient to consultants.Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions,with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants,children, pregnant and lactating women, or older adults. Developsand coordinates APP training and professional developmentactivities.Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account thebenefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness forthe patient, family and the organization.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from anaccredited school/college.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through acombination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant workexperience in a related job discipline.

Current and/or eligible for State of llinois licensure/registrationrequired. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through theMedical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Master\'s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.National certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, FamilyNurse Practitioner or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.Experience:
A minimum of two years of experience in a related clinical area.Experience in pediatric hematology/oncology nursing.Experience participating in clinical research.Demonstrated clinical competency.Knowledge of electronic medical records.Excellent interpersonal skills.The ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of individualsand constituencies in a diverse setting.Ability to handle and relate sensitive information and workindependently.Excellent organizational skills.Ability to troubleshoot problems on a regular basis.Licenses and Certifications:
