Position Summary
The Director of Admissions is responsible for providing visionary leadership in reaching enrollment goals for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The Director will manage all activities related to recruitment, admissions, and enrollment of new students at the University. The individual in this role will be expected to collaborate with other departments and the campus community to support the overall mission and Strategic Plan of the University and ensure compliance with its policies and to achieve its enrollment goals. The Director will be responsible for fostering and building strong relationships internally and externally that will inform overall recruitment, admissions, and enrollment strategies. The Director oversees an Admissions department that includes teams dedicated to recruitment, communication, operations, and orientation. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership for admissions, recruitment, and outreach (30%)
Advise university leadership on admissions, recruitment, and outreach strategies.
Serve as liaison for the admission unit to align academic program admission with university enrollment efforts.
Direct admissions strategic planning initiatives and establish recruitment and enrollment goals.
Develop and implement institutional admissions/recruitment plans, strategies, and activities for new first year students, transfer students, and international students, in concert with various campus units.
Develop innovative recruiting strategies for new prospective students, to re-engage students who have stopped out, and students historically underserved by higher education.
Collaborate with graduate programs to support recruitment and admissions for prospective graduate students, as appropriate.
Work closely with University Communications and Marketing to develop and implement marketing strategies including print and digital content; communication flows and plans for inquiries, applicants, parents and supporters, and external stakeholders; and leveraging tools such as the website and CRM portal.
Review annually admission materials such as acceptance packets and materials to ensure compliance, as well as appropriate communications and publications.
Work across departments to ensure prospective students have the information they need in a timely way to decide surrounding attendance at the University.
Work in collaboration with colleagues in Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment and Academic Affairs to ensure a seamless transition from admission to enrollment.
Maintain communication with the campus community and active relationships with relevant University and Universities of Wisconsin committees.
Serve on the Administrative Cabinet and the Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment Leadership Team.
Serve on committees and working groups related to strategic enrollment planning ( SEP ) including the SEP Council, SEP Steering Committee, and assigned working group.
Serve on the Strategic Plan Implementation Team.
Provide day-to-day leadership and budget oversight for the Admissions department (25%)
Develop and monitor the effectiveness of admissions operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives
Provide leadership and mentoring to the admissions team that will recruit and assist students with the enrollment process.
Assist teams to solve problems, to focus their efforts on high-yielding activities.
Support the recruitment team with the various departments they collaborate with on campus.
Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked.
Prepare and maintain the departmental budget.
Leverage technology and data to inform the institution’s approach to recruitment and outreach (15%)
Oversee the utilization of a customer relationship management ( CRM ) system that customizes and tracks enrollment data, personalizes communications for a diverse prospect pool, and generates reports to drive enrollment strategies.
Monitor state-wide, national, and international education and enrollment trends and best practices for the recruitment and enrollment of both traditional and post-traditional students.
Oversee the development and monitoring of data reports to enhance recruitment strategies, yield management, forecasting, and operational effectiveness.
Pull, analyze, evaluate, and make suggestions on data for applications, enrollment conversions, and trends on a frequent basis.
Ensure accuracy and timely collection of data to measure the effectiveness of admissions, recruitment, and outreach, such as events, campus visits, inquiries, and enrollment funnel activities.
Work in collaboration with the Vice Chancellor to create presentations and reports related to recruitment, admissions, and enrollment.
Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners (15%)
Serve as the University liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing admission information and representing the admissions interests of the institution.
Develop, implement, and execute a comprehensive communication and outreach strategy to high school counselors, community and technical college partners, and other external constituencies.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, outside of the Admissions department, to plan and organize outreach and recruitment events on and off campus that coordinate with existing Admissions strategies and events.
Develop and maintain relationships with local schools, businesses, and community organizations to promote the benefits, educational opportunities, campus resources and events, and scholarship opportunities at the University.
Support efforts of pre-college pathway activities for the purpose of building the enrollment funnel. These activities and programs include but are not limited to youth camps, large campus group visits, and high school dual enrollment activities.
Provide oversight for new student orientation and connection to first year experience (10%)
Oversee the development and implementation of the new student orientation program.
Identify and incorporate orientation program components that support traditional students, post-traditional students, transfer students, and parents/supporters.
Engage campus stakeholders in new student registration, orientation, and transition programming.
Evaluate the new student orientation program and make improvements based on these data and feedback.
Collaborate with student success, first year experience, and academic affairs to ensure a seamless transition from registration, new student orientation, and into first semester of courses.
Participate in other duties as assigned (5%)
Serve on various university-wide and system-wide committees.
Identify and engage in professional development opportunities.
Engage in other projects and initiatives as requested.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Qualifications (Required):
Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 years of experience in higher education or related field
Five years experience in admissions counseling, advising, recruitment, or related experience in higher education
Evidence of strong leadership skills, with the ability to develop, motivate, and supervise staff
Skilled communicator with success in developing and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships
Effective in developing and implementing recruitment and enrollment strategies
Commitment to developing an inclusive, highly collaborative work environment among faculty, staff, and students
Qualifications (Preferred):
Earned Master’s Degree
At least 5 years of progressive admissions or recruitment experience
Organization and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet project deadlines
A hands-on leader with a strong data-informed approach to enrollment and experience with continuous quality improvement
Experience with developing and implementing recruitment and enrollment strategies for multiple student markets including undergraduate students, international students, graduate students, transfer students, and post-traditional students
Experience with budget management
Ability to clearly explain university policies, admissions, and transfer procedures
Ability to exercise solid professional judgment and maintain confidentiality
Systemic thinker with the ability to create effective processes and procedures for the University
Knowledge of current technology and Customer Relationship Management ( CRM ) tools, and a willingness to learn and adapt to new and changing technology in enrollment management
