DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is looking to hire a proficient Administrative Specialist that has excellent writing and proofreading skills, with an advanced level of communications skills with the general public.
The individual that assumes this role will perform various professional administrative functions in communication and customer service. Establishes and maintains effective communication within the following areas: community entities, affiliated organizations, internal entities, and news media to raise the profile of the Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD). Must have an intermediate level or higher of experience in managing, creating, and publishing content on social media platforms that would enhance and elevate awareness of the department’s presence. This position is also expected to work with the Communications and Customer Service Team. Candidate must have public relations experience and the ability to assist in producing the following, (i.e., public information activities, news releases, brochures and/or visual presentations.) Will be required to prepare draft reports on customer service calls, emails, and correspondence on various department matters. Represents the Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) at designated public events. Must have the ability to translate complex technical ideas and vision to various audiences. Provides guidance to the department's staff in various activities necessary to attain operational goals and participates in special projects as assigned. This position will report to the Deputy Director, Administration of the Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) and is expected to perform the following essential functions:
Coordinates and manages in-house events for the department.
Manage, produce, and publish daily content on all Solid Waste Management Departments (SWMD) social media platforms.
Drafts news advisories and press releases - as assigned.
Compiles data, interprets results through conclusion or recommended formulation.
This position is considered an essential position to the (SWMD) and the "selected candidate will be required to work during emergencies, natural disasters, some weekends and late hours."
Will handle highly confidential information.
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Liberal Arts, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) years of administrative experience are required.
Professional administrative experience may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERENCES
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
Candidates with excellent communication and writing skills are highly desirable. Intermediate MS Office Suite skills are a plus. Candidates that possess skills in developing reports, special documents, and publications are highly desirable. The candidate will have excellent organizational skills. Excellent public relations experience to include news releases, brochures and/or visual presentations and proofreading skills preferred.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
