Job SummaryThe Middle School Administrative Assistant provides the primary clerical and administrative support in a high school. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).
Job RequirementsThe following are required:
A high school diploma or equivalent.Three years of clerical experience. Equivalent education may be considered in lieu of related work experience.Excellent communication and customer service skills.Ability to establish and maintain a professional relationship with staff, parents, students, administrators, and the public.Ability to maintain confidentiality and inspire confidence and cooperation of staff, parents, students, administrators, and the public.The following are preferred:
Knowledge of first-aid.Knowledge of office practices, procedures, office machines, and filing systems.Ability to operate common office equipment and be proficient in computer use, both Macintosh and Windows, with experience in a variety of programs and applications including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.Ability to type accurately at an acceptable rate of speed.Knowledge of ASD computer systems such as Zangle, EmpCenter, IFAS, or Aesop Absence Management.Ability to perform clerical work with independent judgment, speed, and accuracy, including financial and statistical reports, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Essential Job Functions
Performs a variety of secretarial duties, particularly in the areas of record keeping and communications between the principal, teachers, students, parents, and the Anchorage School District as they relate to the school.Receives office visitors.Maintains good public relations.Assists individual students or parents in relating to the school program and its staff.Makes and keeps records of appointments and conferences.Types a variety of documents from rough draft, instructions, or dictation equipment.Maintains general and confidential files.Opens, sorts, and distributes mail.Arranges and provides orientation for substitute staff as needed.May distribute paychecks to all building employees.Orders, receives, stores and distributes supplies, equipment, and forms.Administers petty cash fund and performs other minor bookkeeping functions.Assists teachers in preparation of class material.May administer first aid care as needed.The Anchorage School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
