　　Job Summary

　　Provides general addiction and psychiatric care throughout Denver HealthHospital, which includes general medical floors, intensive care units,Ob/Gyn, pediatric unit, psychiatric units, and child & adolescentpsychiatric unit. Diagnose and treat children and adults, including patientswith complex and co-occurring medical, psychiatric and substance usedisorders. Provides expert assessment and clinical care in one or more ofthese areas and provides teaching and scholarly work in their area ofexpertise. The majority of patients seen will have an substance usedisorder(80%), and some will have a co-occurring psychiatric disorder(20%). The physician will have responsibility for clinical education ofvarious trainees and will enjoy the benefits of a hospitalist flex schedule.

　　Essential Functions:

　　Obtains relevant medical histories, makes appropriate diagnoses,implements and directs effective addiction and psychiatric treatmentsincluding during high-risk and/or life-threatening conditions includingduring pregnancy and peri-partum periods. Consults with medical providers inthe care of patients with psychiatric and substance use disorder . (70%)Assesses and mitigates the risk of suicide or violence among patients at riskdue to psychiatric illness, including schizophrenia, bipolar,depressive, anxiety, substance use disorders, and personality disorders. (10%)Teaches medical students and advanced trainees from other health disciplinesincluding in nationally accredited training programs. (10%)Applies treatment statutes for involuntary psychiatric and/or substance usedisorder treatments. Interprets the results of relevant laboratory andimagining studies and applies them to the diagnosis and treatment of addictionand psychiatric symptoms. (10%)

　　Doctorate Degree Graduate of an accredited medical school. Required

　　Licenses:

　　MD or DO-Physician - State Medical Board Required andBLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association RequiredCertification in Addiction Psychiatry or Consultation-Liaison PsychiatryPreferred, but Not Required

　　Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

　　Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles,procedures and techniques.

　　Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.

　　Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activitieswhile providing quality medical care.

　　Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; expressor exchange ideas by verbal communications.

　　Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.

　　Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational,socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.

　　Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
