An Accounting Clerk in the hotel industry plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall financial operations of the hotel. The job description for an Accounting Clerk in the hotel industry typically includes the following responsibilities and qualifications:
Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping: Maintain and update financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
Invoice Processing: Process invoices, verify accuracy, and ensure timely payments to vendors. Address any discrepancies or issues with invoices.
Expense Management: Monitor and reconcile expense reports, ensuring compliance with the hotel's policies and procedures.
Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliation of bank statements and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Budget Monitoring: Support the monitoring of departmental budgets and provide relevant financial information to management.
Audit Support: Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations for financial transactions.
Communication: Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information and address any financial-related inquiries.
Data Entry: Accurately input financial data into accounting software and ensure the integrity of the financial records.
Compliance: Stay updated on relevant accounting regulations and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Maintain a professional working relationship and promote open lines of communication with the property accounting manager, corporate team, general managers, and employees in other departments. • Accounts Payable: Reviews, codes and processes vendor invoices for payment. Reconciles vendor statements to invoices. • Audit daily revenue from Front Desk and Night Audit. Balance Credit Card payments. Ensure credit card posting, refunds and chargebacks are accurately reconciled and processed. • Owner Accounting: Post monthly charges to units for supplies. Review/post maintenance repair tickets. Assist in the preparation of monthly Owner Statements. • Inventories: Assist with monthly inventory counts. Assist with inventory reconciliation log. • Accounts Receivable: Assist with billing and collection of direct bill accounts. Respond to guest billing inquires. • Perform special projects or other tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience in hospitality accounting preferred • Accounting degree or currently working towards obtaining degree preferred • Must have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel • Experience with SMS Host and /or Microsoft Dynamics GP a plus • Ability to work with deadlines and take a creative approach to problem resolution • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks • Effective written and oral communication skills
