  About Us: Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College’s fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees. Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland’s most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware. With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs. Through its open admissions policy, Cecil College provides learning opportunities for all who have the desire and ability to benefit from its courses and programs, regardless of age, gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, or socioeconomic status. Employees of Cecil College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorships. Position Overview: Accessibility Services is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to fill the role of Accessibility Support Specialist. This is an adjunct/contractual position with a specialized focus on serving as a dedicated notetaker or lab/studio assistant, when the need arises. This position may also involve additional duties as assigned depending on individual student support needs. In this position, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that students with disabilities have seamless access to academic content and practical experiences. Key Responsibilities: Notetaking Services: • Provide dedicated notetaking support for students with disabilities in various academic settings, including lectures, discussions, and presentations. • Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of clear and comprehensive notes to students who require this accommodation. Lab/Studio Assistance: • Collaborate with faculty and students to facilitate access to and safety in labs, studios, and hands-on learning experiences. • Assist in setting up adaptive technologies and equipment as assigned to enhance accessibility. Accessibility Assessments: • Work closely with assigned students to assess individual accessibility needs that arise during class/lab/studio. • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Accessibility Services to determine and implement effective accommodation strategies when indicated. Training and Support: • Assist the Coordinator of Accessibility Services with creating and providing training for faculty and support staff on best practices for supporting students with disabilities. • Offer technical assistance and support to faculty and students in using adaptive technologies when indicated. Diversity and Inclusion: • Demonstrate a commitment to working with diverse students and ensuring an inclusive environment. • Proactively address and support the unique needs of students from various backgrounds and abilities. Additional Responsibilities: • Maintain accurate records of assignments. • Address and report student concerns or crisis appropriately and in a timely manner. Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, art, science, technology, engineering, mathematics) is preferred. • Experience as a notetaker or lab/studio assistant in an academic setting. • Familiarity with assistive technologies, adaptive equipment, and accommodations for students with disabilities. • Strong writing skills, organizational skills and attention to detail. • Effective communication skills to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff. • Demonstrated ability to address and report student concerns or crises appropriately and in a timely manner. Schedule: • This is an adjunct position with a flexible schedule based on the needs of students and academic programs. Need may vary from semester to semester. Availability during regular class hours and lab sessions is required.
