Job Summary
Provide comprehensive academic advising and support to students from allundergraduate majors and minor(s) in the College of Education. Theacademic advisor collaborates with students to create individualizedplans that align with their interests, educational goals, and careeraspirations. Additionally, they support the mission and vision of theOffice of Undergraduate Programs to promote an enriching experience forall undergraduate students enrolled in Education at Illinois.
Duties Responsibilities
Academic Advising
Serve as a primary academic advisor and provide holistic advisingservices to undergraduate students across all majors and minor(s) withinthe College of Education.
Assist students in understanding degree requirements, policies andprocedures, and connect students to relevant support services.
Monitor student progress toward degree and licensure requirements, ifapplicable.
Maintain appropriate databases with accurate student records andinformation.
Monitor and review undergraduate student forms and petitions.
Advocate on behalf of students who are experiencing challenges and referthem to appropriate campus resources to maximize support services.
Collaborate with the assistant dean on the Education Success Initiativeand provide proactive intervention to students experiencingdifficulties, as reported by faculty, program coordinators, andsupervisors/cooperating teachers.
Provide advising services to Parkland Pathways students in partnershipwith an assigned liaison at Parkland College.
Programming and Recruitment
Coordinate logistics with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA)to facilitate New Student Registration. Assist new first-year andtransfer students with course selection and registration.
Participate in recruitment efforts such as Prospective and AdmittedIlliniFest, the Majors and Minors Fair, and all other college anduniversity recruitment and yield events.
Assist the undergraduate admissions and recruitment coordinator withintercollegiate transfer and secondary education minor informationsessions and application processes.
Meet with current Illinois students interested in transferring to theCollege of Education.
Facilitate College of Education programs, such as the James Scholarrecognition brunch and induction meetings; attend charge ceremonies andscholarship banquets.
Provide support for the EDUC 101 First-Year Orientation Seminar course.
Administrative/Other
Participate in grade audit review at the end of each academic term.
Communicate regularly with the Office of Undergraduate Programs team,academic departments, the Council on Teacher Education, and otherconstituencies.
Stay up-to-date with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) policyupdates.
Coordinate program development and course scheduling with the AssociateDean/Director of Teacher Education and attend meetings with programfaculty and coordinators when requested.
Serve on college and university committees.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling/social work, socialsciences, or related field.At least one year of experience in teaching (including Pre-K-12,college-level, or workplace training), admissions, advising, careercounseling, or student services.Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in education, student affairs, counseling/socialwork, social sciences, or related field.At least one year of experience working with undergraduate studentsin higher education (e.g., teaching, student affairs, or academicaffairs).Knowledge, Skills and Abil ties
Required:
Demonstrates a strong commitment to working with culturally diversegroups.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and otherconstituencies.Preferred:
Knowledge of systems such as Banner, uAchieve Degree Audit, andTransferology.Demonstrates the ability to meet the needs of undergraduate collegestudents.Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after7/31/2024. Salary is commensurate with experience. The salary range is$52,000 - $62,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary,considering factors such as available market data, internal equity,candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargainingagreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will bedetermined through a thorough assessment of these elements
