The X-Ray Operator/Lab Tech performs clinical laboratory tests and x-rays ordered by the physicians to assist in patient diagnosis and monitoring. Aligns with all laboratory policies and procedures, OSHA and CLIA regulations. May need to act as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results/ correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise and other conditions affecting test results. Able to work with the customers of laboratory to promote customer satisfaction and participate in laboratory performance improvement.
X-Ray Operator/Lab Tech Overview
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lab Technician
Obtains specimens from patients of all ages and degrees of physical and/or mental disability.
Properly verifies patient identity.
Assesses integrity of all specimens for testing.
Verifies correct identification of specimens before testing.
Follows established guidelines for determining priority of specimen testing and procurement.
Independently performs routine lab tests
Prepares solutions, reagents and strains following standard lab formulas and procedures
Operates laboratory instrumentation and information systems according to procedure
X-Ray Technician
Functions independently in performing routine work
Operates basic x-ray equipment to make radiographs of designated portions of the body.
Develops x-rays and check quality
Prepares and maintains records and files as directed
Operates laboratory instrumentation and information systems according to procedure.
Completes specified maintenance on instruments.
Safety and Problem Resolution
Acts as a resource for problem solving, corrective action and troubleshooting for lab procedures and unexpected events in lab operations.
Initiates proper safety or emergency responses.
Consults with supervisor if unable to resolves issues.
Exercises critical thinking to maintain and improve department productivity and efficiencies.
Quality Control
Determine if test results fall within normal parameters and reporting protocols. Recognizes age specific reference ranges.
Correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise and other conditions affecting test results.
Takes appropriate action to recheck abnormal, discrepant or unexpected results.
Recognizes and communicates values and trends that exceed the QC decision levels. Takes action to resolve and consults with supervisor as needed.
Participates in the lab performance improvement program by collecting data, reviewing results and implementing corrective action recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Limited Scope X-Ray Operator Certification
Preferred: Phlebotomy training
Experience running non-waived (moderate complexity) lab tests: hematology, urinalysis, microscopic tests
Preferred: proficiency at phlebotomy
Good time management and organizational skills
Able to move between the lab and X-ray as needed
