SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Work Based Learning Intermediary will connect education, employersfrom business and industry and economic development in the region tocoordinate work-based learning (WBL) experiences with area high schoolstudents. The primary goal is to support career readiness and helpconnect area employers to local high schools to facilitate WBLopportunities. The WBL Intermediary will be responsible for identifyingwork experience opportunities that have academic and occupationaleducational value aligned with the Kansas Work-Based LearningPersonalized Learning Plan. WBL opportunities may include, but are notlimited to, paid or unpaid internships for academic credit, summeremployment, apprenticeship programs, and job shadowing.
This position will ensure WBL opportunities are available through localemployers and businesses meeting the individual needs of studentparticipants by providing the opportunity to gain valuable workexperience within the occupational industry where they have a careerinterest and align with academic goals. It is expected that the WBLIntermediary will work directly with the Work Based Learning Coordinatorassigned by a school or local school district.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Build, expand and maintain relationships with school districtofficials, student participants, and employers to promote WBLopportunities.Create and/or expand existing working relationships betweeneducation institutions, business and industry, and economicdevelopment in the region to promote WBL opportunities.Leverage resources when available and appropriate from the LocalWorkforce Development Boards and align services from the KANSASWORKSWorkforce Centers to promote WBL opportunities.Act as a liaison and coordinate career awareness experiences inidentified employment sectors for student participants that mayinclude guest speakers, job shadowing, mock interviews, field trips,career mentoring and company tours\> Coordinate such workshops withthe Scholl District Coordinator.Learning Plan Guidance document.
Support the development of WBL models directly with an employer orcoalition of employers and facilitate a process to place studentparticipants in WBL opportunities.Assist in the planning to build and/or expand sustainable WBL modelsin the region.Participate as needed in job fairs, career day events, workshops,seminars and other employment related activities.Identify prospective employers to participate in WBL by usingbusiness directories, following leads from existing clients,participating in organizations and clubs, and attending trade showsand conferencesConduct initial worksite visits, ongoing site visits during durationof the work experience and follow-up placement visits to ensureexpectations are being met and participant and employer aresatisfiedCreate, facilitate and record satisfaction surveys for partneringemployersOther related duties and responsibilities as assignedPREFERRED REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor\'s degree in field related to position or equivalent workexperienceAt least three years of work experience in related p sition such ascareer/tech education, economic or workforce developmentIndependent judgement and professionalism; ability to developcooperative working relationships with employers, students,businesses and be able to work as a team; customer service mindsetSelf-motivated and able to work independently; able to set directionand accomplish required tasks with minimal supervisionExcellent communication both verbal and writtenProven computer skills preferably using Microsoft OfficeAbility to travel throughout designated area of workforce centerPHYSICAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
