The Allen School has an outstanding opportunity for a Web Data Specialist- Temporary (Web Computing Specialist) to join our team.
This is a temporary 9 month project appointment position, with a possibility of extension.
This position will be assisting with several ongoing web server migration projects within the CSE Lab IT Group in the Allen School. This position will join the Web & Database team within the broader CSE Lab IT group. Over the course of the 9 month appointment, the Web Data Specialist will be part of a highly collaborative environment, working to migrate web content to several new web servers in anticipation of the Centos 7 End of Life date of June 30th 2024. The nature of the work will include cross-team coordination, project planning for priorities and deadlines, and technical configuration/programming to complete the migration tasks. The position will have flexibility and autonomy to structure the work involved, and will be supported by a skilled and dynamic group of colleagues on the Web & Database team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Migration of Apache web servers from Centos 7 to Rocky Linux 9.
Cleanup and rationalize complex Apache configurations.
Migration and testing of Shibboleth Single Sign-On configurations.
Migration and testing of WordPress websites.
Migration and testing of MediaWiki websites.
Coordinating with end-users to migrate applications from Python2 to Python3 (Django and Flask).
Coordinating with end-users to migrate Ruby Applications from Ruby 2.x to Ruby 3.x
Document system configurations as they’re created/updated.
Attend weekly staff meetings.
Track project progress via internal project tracking system.
Creation of Chef cookbooks to create a webserver configuration baseline.
Migration of individual PHP5 applications to PHP8.
Migration of Perl applications. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors in related field, with 3 years of related experience. Experience may substitute for education requirement.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Strong understanding of Apache Webserver configuration.
Working knowledge of Bash and shell scripting.
Intermediate knowledge of PHP, mod, php and php-fpm.
Understanding of DNS concepts and the practical use of with regards to Web Applications. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency with technologies including Chef, Git, Perl, Shibboleth SSO, and WordPress.
Prior experience with webserver/web application migration projects.
Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
