  TikTok Privacy & Security Product team is responsible for building compliant and user-friendly privacy solutions for TikTok, with the goal of building trust among TikTok users, regulators, and the public. The team is working on TikTok's privacy-related products, including user/underage protection, data access controls, data retention policies, etc.

  We are seeking an experienced Tech Lead Manager to lead our TikTok user/underage protection engineering team. As a manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of talented backend engineers and ensuring smooth collaboration with frontend/mobile partners and XFN such as PM, user researcher, data scientist and infrastructure to protect TikTok users, especially underages, by building innovative privacy products/features.

  Key Responsibilities:

  - Lead a team of backend engineers and collaborate with frontend/mobile teams to build innovative privacy products/features.

  - Work with cross-functional teams to explore user/underage protection related product features and finalize technical requirements for TikTok's backend systems.

  - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with age related privacy laws and regulations, such as COPPA.

  - Manage resources and budgets to optimize team performance and achieve business objectives.

  - Establish a strong team by continuously mentoring/growing team members.

  - Define and drive the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap for TikTok's backend systems.

  - Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality features and improvements to our backend systems.

  - Continuously improve the quality, efficiency, and security of TikTok's backend systems.

  - Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including product managers, data scientists, and infrastructure teams.

  Qualifications

  - Bachelor's degree or above, majoring in Computer Science or related fields.

  - 2+ years of experience in managing or technically leading a software engineering team.

  - Strong technical skills in backend development, including experience with distributed systems, databases, and APIs.

  - Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing technical challenges.

  - Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

  - Experience working in an agile development environment.

  Preferred Qualification

  - Strong mentorship skills

  - Strong product sense, with experience driving user-facing products/features from 0 to 1.

  - Strong empathy for underage well-being

  - Experience with user-facing privacy products

  - Experience with privacy principles and laws, such as GDPR, CCPA, and COPPA

  - Experience with privacy impact assessments and risk management

  - Experience with implementing privacy by design and default principles in backend systems.

  Job Information

  [For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)

  The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $199500 - $340100 annually.

  Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

  We cover 100% premium coverage for employee medical insurance, approximately 75% premium coverage for dependents and offer a Health Savings Account(HSA) with a company match. As well as Dental, Vision, Short/Long term Disability, Basic Life, Voluntary Life and AD&D insurance plans. In addition to Flexible Spending Account(FSA) Options like Health Care, Limited Purpose and Dependent Care.

  Our time off and leave plans are: 10 paid holidays per year plus 17 days of Paid Personal Time Off (PPTO) (prorated upon hire and increased by tenure) and 10 paid sick days per year as well as 12 weeks of paid Parental leave and 8 weeks of paid Supplemental Disability.

  We also provide generous benefits like mental and emotional health benefits through our EAP and Lyra. A 401K company match, gym and cellphone service reimbursements. The Company reserves the right to modify or change these benefits programs at any time, with or without notice.
