Key job responsibilities
• People Management: manages a team of construction professionals
• Contracting: oversees strategic relationship management and execution, evaluation and hiring of General Contractors, project management/coordination and cost/budgeting for General Contractors. Develop tools and processes to drive improvement – Create and help build tools and processes to improve accuracy and scale.
• Budget oversight and management: oversees budget development, approval of bid packages, along with leading strategic cost saving initiatives to deliver cost effective store construction solutions in partnership with Store Design. Develop a framework for store cost analysis: determine the right KPI, and drive improvement accordingly.
• Construction: oversees construction schedules, construction administration, including monitoring of construction quality and schedule, ensures completion of projects on time and on budget, conducts punch-list inspections, and closes out construction contracts.
• Business Process: Develop tools and processes to drive improvement for budget and schedule accuracy that will help us scale.
• Mentor and lead a team: Manage a team of 15+ to deliver all of the above.
A day in the life
Amazon is seeking a Manager of Construction who will lead the Physical Stores Construction team responsible for building retail projects across the country. This position will be part of an exciting, fast moving and growing business team. The right person for this job will be an entrepreneurial self-starter with dedication to leading a team of construction professionals overseeing projects through to the end. You will have an eye for detail and determination to turn-over high-quality work. You will be an integral part of the team that works cross-functionally between Store Design, Store Operations, Facilities, Tech, Security, Loss Prevention, and Amazon vendors.
This position will manage a team of Construction Managers and will be responsible for the development and execution of construction standards, processes, tools and systems across the construction team; this position collaborates with internal and external cross-functional teams to manage the execution of multiple end-to-end projects at any given time. This position involves direct contact with both internal and external parties, and this candidate must have a professional demeanor and ability to communicate effectively with business partners at every level, including upper management.

The ideal candidate is super detail-oriented and will possess deep knowledge and expertise in retail construction at scale. This person is a self-starter and a creative, critical thinker with an intense curiosity. You must be able to work independently in a collaborative, ever-changing and ambiguous environment. This candidate can independently complete complex tasks and projects quickly, react with appropriate urgency to immediate needs, and take action without needing to know the total picture. Additionally, the candidate must have experience designing and implementing effective mechanisms that drive operational excellence.

Basic Qualifications
• BA/BS degree from accredited university
• 8+ years of business experience (e.g. vendor sourcing, contracts management) demonstrating progressive responsibility and growth within the construction/facilities industry
• Have strong project management experience and construction experience
• General knowledge of Building Codes
• Proficient in MS Excel and MS Project
• Ability to conduct financial business case analysis / translate information into useful formats and draw conclusions
• Experience in negotiating commercial contracts (master agreements / work-orders)
• Familiarity with business process documentation and improvement
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads
• Able to work with technical and non-technical business owners/partners to overcome obstacles and deliver results
• Provide business decision support and participate/lead special projects
• Strong organizational skills
• Self-motivated, able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team as projects dictate
• Able to travel up to or beyond 25% based on project work load

The pay range for this position in Jersey City is $122,000-165,000/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per the Pay Transparency Regulation of Jersey City Municipal Code. Base pay information is based on market location. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $119,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $221,300/year in our highest geographic market.
