Function: The SLP will work with students to address individual needs and help students meet or exceed the educational and developmental goals. The SLP will work to prevent, assess, diagnose and treat communication disorders and pragmatics by targeting the language processes of reading, writing, speaking, listening and learning. He/She will work collaboratively with professionals to determine the support and services for the student as they transition throughout their school careers and into the community. Practices include but are not limited to screenings, follow-up services, evaluations, procedures, planning, preparing and helping implement IEPs, and developing service schedules.
Certification - The Ohio Department of Education licensure requirements include the following: a master's degree, passing a national exam and completion of a supervised professional experience. SPLs in schools are required to maintain two licenses: an ODE professional license and a license from the Ohio Speech and Hearing Professionals Board.
Experience - Minimum of the supervised professional experience that is required for the school psychologist.
