Qualifications/Performance Responsibilities:
Candidate Should:
Pocess a current NYS certification in Special Education B-12
Possess 3-5 years' experience in Systematic Instruction (ABA), as well as comprehensive knowledge relative to the development of lesson plans incorporating discrete trials, task analysis and charting student performance.
Possess knowledge of a variety of developmental disabilities, most specifically Autism Spectrum Disorder, and the potential effects upon a student's academic functioning and behavior.
Possess a strong working knowledge of Federal and State Mandates pertaining to developmental disabilities.
Possess demonstrated skill in Functional Behavioral Assessment and development of Behavioral Intervention Plans.
Possess knowledge of the resources and supports available to assess the daily functioning of students with Developmental Disabilities.
Possess well-developed written and oral communication skills.
Possess an ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team as well as schedule and coordinate a variety of service providers.
Possess effective case management and resource management skills.
Possess demonstrated experience in modifying curriculum and applying research-based instructional approaches when teaching students with disabilities.
Responsibilities:
Provide content area instruction to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a self-contained classroom in accordance with curricular expectations and Individualized Education Plans.
Articulates specific learning challenges, skill deficiencies or social adjustment difficulties as exhibited by students and identifies appropriate remediation to facilitate student achievement and growth.
Evaluates and progress monitors each student in terms of his/her progress toward attainment of specified learning goals.
Coordinate efforts of instructional and support team.
Develop behavioral intervention plans, monitor behavior and develop appropriate intervention strategies.
Develop Individualized Education Plans and integrated goals.
Facilitate the inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education environment.
Coordinate the provision of various related services and work collaboratively with treatment providers, general education teachers, support staff and administration.
Provide appropriate staff development and/or in-service regarding the needs of individual students.
Communicate with parents and other professional and support members, including agency representatives specializing in the management and instruction of elementary-aged students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Other responsibilities as assigned by Building Administration, the Coordinator for Special Education, or the Assistant Superintendent for Exceptional Education and Student Services.
