Summary Welds metal parts with gas welding equipment as specified bylayout, welding diagram, or
work order. Collects, fits, and welds fabricated sheet metal componentsto assemble structional forms
such as machinery frames, tanks, custom jobs, material handlingcomponents like, but not limited too,
gates, valves, ladder, cage, probes, distributors, elbows, flanges,feeders, spouts, grates, loading systems,
bucket elevators, drag conveyors and other material handling parts byperforming the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Otherduties may be assigned.
Welds metal parts together utilizing GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, brazing,soldering, and any
combination of arc welding processes. Positions parts in jigs orfixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts
together along layout marks. Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod andflux, according to welding chart
specifications or type and thickness of metal. Connects regulator valvesand hoses to oxygen and fuel gas
cylinders, and welding torch. Collects, positions, aligns, and fitsfabricated metal components together in
jigs or fixtures or according blue prints or supervisory instructionutilizing precision measuring
instruments to maintain dimensional tolerances. Turns regulator valvesto activate flow of gases, lights
torch and adjusts gas mixture and pressure, to obtain desired flame.Holds torch at proper angle to metal
and guides along weld joint, applying filler rod to molten area to formweld. Examines weld for bead size
and other specifications. Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fillsholes, and builds up metal parts.
Applies flux to work piece instead of filler rod. Preheats work piece infurnace or with torch. Lays out,
positions, and tack welds work pieces. Welds along vertical or overheadweld lines. Scarfs or grooves
weld prior to applying filler metal. Chips or grinds off excess weld,slag, or spatter. Cleans or degreases
parts. Produce finished product within acceptable time standard and inconformance to company quality
requirements.
