About Senior Site Environmental Manager, Amazon Air (KBWI, Baltimore, MD)

  Description

  The Senior Site Environmental Manager (Sr SEM) will be responsible for environmental compliance at the KBWI Baltimore, MD Facility. The Sr SEM will develop standards and policies to support regulatory compliance and provide environmental compliance guidance for operations and construction teams. The individual will complete environmental performance analysis, establish and monitor metrics, and guide the teams in implementation of Amazon environmental standards. The Sr SEM will work with internal and external partners that include government entities, contractors, consultants, design, construction, operations and other key stakeholders.

  The Senior Site Environmental Manager uses communication, environmental regulatory knowledge (particularly with respect to Maryland regulations) and program management experience to lead teams in complex and technical projects.

  Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and Amazon policy.

  • Develop strategic programs by integrating with engineering, construction, and operations. Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization.

  • Function as a leader regarding regulatory agency interactions, permit evaluation and processing, and new process and technology introduction

  • Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards.

  • Develop environmental metrics to measure, monitor and forecast performance

  • Conduct thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently.

  • Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company.

  • Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately.

  • Submit time critical reports to various governmental agencies

  • Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports and develop appropriate corrective actions

  Eligibility Requirements

  Must fulfill FAA and DHS criminal background checks to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA), if applicable.

  Must be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, if applicable.

  This position may be subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing. Federal law requires Amazon to determine an applicant's history of Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and/or alcohol violation(s) or refusal(s) to test before hiring him/her into a safety-sensitive position, if applicable.

  Key job responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee local, state, and federal environmental regulations and Amazon policies.

  • Coach, guide, and motivate internal teams so they understand how their day-to-day work affects regulatory compliance, the environment and the communities in which Amazon operates and conduct themselves as responsible environmental stewards.

  • Execute and enable others at the site on proper waste management techniques, collection of storm water samples, facilitating regulator inspections, mitigating environmental risk, and ensuring records are maintained per federal, state, and local environmental standards.

  • Generate new ideas and methods for solving recurring problems and encourage associates to innovate and continuously improve.

  • Enforce Amazon standards & policies and use tools and mechanisms to drive adoption.

  • Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization.

  • Lead the site in environmental regulatory agency interactions, permit evaluation and processing, and new process and technology introduction.

  • Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards.

  • Develop environmental systems, implement and monitor performance using leading indicators.

  • Conduct thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently.

  • Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company.

  • Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately.

  • Submit time critical reports to various governmental agencies.

  • Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports and develop appropriate corrective actions.

  A day in the life

  The role involves prioritizing daily tasks based on environmental risks at the site, conducting daily walk-throughs, and leading a team of Environmental Coordinators to ensure operational excellence. Monitoring and positively influencing the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) is a key focus, along with spearheading compliance activities for waste, stormwater, wastewater, air quality, and EPCRA regulations. The responsibilities extend to overseeing environmental audits, regulatory inspections, spill response, and corrective actions. Ensuring timely completion of environmental training and assisting in permit applications and reports are also integral to maintaining environmental standards and driving continuous improvement.

  About the team

  The mission of the Environmental Assurance and Protection organization (EAP) is to protect Amazon businesses and support the needs of our customers by proactively mitigating environmental regulatory risks and protecting the environment.

  Basic Qualifications

  Bachelor's degree

  5+ years of experience serving as an environmental technical resource, program specialist, or program manager.

  Experience with regulatory assessments, air permit evaluations and applications, NPDES and POTW requirements, and waste management

  Broad knowledge of local and federal environmental regulations

  Experience successfully implementing environmental systems

  Preferred Qualifications

  A completed Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, chemical or environmental engineering or related field of study

  Proficient with MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems

  Experience managing multiple site environments

  Project Management experience
