The Commerce Controllership team is an exciting and fast-evolving Corporate Accounting team at the forefront of Microsoft’s digital transformation, responsible for the financial compliance of product launches and for the accuracy and completeness of Microsoft Online Financial Reporting.

  Microsoft’s Online Commerce platform supports billing, payment and collection, developer payouts and fulfillment through all of Microsoft’s online marketplaces (Azure, Office, Xbox, Microsoft.com, etc.). As we modernize our commercial offerings, the volume of transactions on the platform is experiencing very significant growth.

  We are looking for a Senior Finance Manager with Accounting Controllership and Financial Analysis expertise to close our financial records for period ends (month, quarter, year). The team’s goal is to ensure the Company’s financial records are valid, complete, and accurate. The successful candidate will partner closely with Business owners and Engineering to drive the enablement of new system functionality that improves automation and delivers high quality financial reports. The candidate will also be responsible for all related monthly and quarterly financial close processes and associated controls.

  To succeed in this fast-paced environment, it is required that the candidate be a highly motivated individual who can work through ambiguity, proactively and creatively solve problems, and build partnerships across various disciplines and levels.

  Responsibilities

  The Senior Finance Manager scope will include, but not limited to, the following:

  Develop an understanding of end-to-end processes, data flows, control environment, and financial systems supporting Online Commercial revenue.

  Drive the design, implementation, and testing of new features and system functionality by partnering with Financial System Engineering team to ensure all financial reporting and compliance requirements are met.

  Develop relationships with business partners and take a leadership role on cross-group initiatives to improve business and reporting processes and solve problems. Provide guidance to stakeholders to ensure all risks and issues are appropriately captured, mitigated, and managed.

  Drives end to end risk assessment activities and investigations of identified system and financial issues within the end-to-end reporting processes. Work proactively with various business and engineering partners to solve open issues and ensure risks are mitigated with appropriate financial processes and have sound internal controls in place.

  Design and execute manual processes to bridge any system gaps that both planned and unplanned.

  Close Process: Review complex accounting records in compliance with accounting policies and guidelines. Complete month-end close activities, own content for Monthly Business Review/Quarterly Business Review leadership presentations, and assist in internal and external audit queries.

  Review and maintain Operational and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls and monthly inter-Systems reconciliations.

  Design financial dashboards to develop key business insights. Translate those business insights into executive level write-ups and presentations; Ability to synthesize the complex and influence through effective storytelling.

  Qualifications

  Required/Minimum Qualifications

  Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related field AND 4+ years of finance or financial compliance experience

  OR equivalent experience.

  Preferred Qualifications

  6+ years of finance OR financial compliance experience.

  Professional accounting certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent

  Experience communicating complex analyses in a simple (bottom line upfront) way.

  Ability to partner, build trust, communicate with and influence key stakeholders toward a common goal.

  Demonstrated analytical skills, financial modeling capabilities

  Finance Compliance IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $91,800 - $178,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $117,900 - $195,000 per year.
