Otter Tail County is accepting applications for a full-time Records Technician position in the Sheriff's Office. The purpose of this position is to perform administrative duties in support of the Sheriff s Office including collecting, organizing, maintaining, retrieving, and disseminating computer automated and manual records data. The current opening is in Fergus Falls but may include occasional work in Ottertail as needed. Process law enforcement records for input into electronic records system. Classify and code records to meet mandated Federal, State, and local reporting requirements. Scan documents and attach digital and audio media into records system. Transcribe confidential investigative reports and interviews from word processing equipment. Perform variety of receptionist duties to include, but not limited to, assisting general public in person or by telephone by directing to appropriate personnel to determine the severity of the issue and give direction for the correct course of action to follow. Accept payments and issue receipts for vehicle impound/tow bills, copies of records data, permits, and prepare deposits. Process Permit to Carry/Purchase Handgun applications. Perform background checks, issue permits, and enter data into computerized database. Perform criminal record checks by access to National and State computer database and local records as authorized in accordance with policy. Enter data in the National and State computerized database of warrants, stolen items, missing persons and performs routine validations of record entries. Knowledge of civil process requirements and related record keeping. Follow the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act for dissemination of records data and have basic knowledge of legal procedures. Issue various permits to comply with State and local regulations such as boat and water, fireworks, etc. Participate in ongoing training, including cross-training in all duties performed by the office support personnel to provide backup and assistance as assigned. May assist with duties and responsibilities as outlined in the County Emergency Operations Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan. This position is regularly scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30 p.m. The 2024 starting salary for this position is $22.16 per hour, depending on qualifications, with advancement to $35.60 per hour.
