The Quality Manager reports to the General Manager and is directly responsible for planning, directing, or coordinating quality assurance programs, formulating quality control policies, and controlling the quality of laboratory and production efforts in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities :
Collect and analyze production samples to evaluate the quality
Analyze quality control test results and provide feedback and interpretation to production management or staff
Stop production if serious product defects are present
Monitor the performance of quality control systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
Communicate quality control information to all relevant organizational departments, outside vendors, or contractors
Train others in quality control and analytical procedures
Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve manufacturing processes or products or to reduce costs, using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials, and parts
Produce reports regarding nonconformance of products or processes, daily production quality, quality trends
Oversee investigations of quality incidents to solve for root causes
Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing
Participate in the development of product specifications
Review statistical studies, technological advances, or regulatory standards and trends to stay abreast of issues in the field of quality control
Identify critical points in the manufacturing process and specify sampling procedures to be used at these points
Create and implement inspection and testing criteria or procedures
Document testing procedures, methodologies, or criteria
Review and update standard operating procedures or quality assurance manuals
Identify quality problems or areas for improvement and recommend solutions
Verify that raw materials purchased parts or components, in-process samples, and finished products meet established testing and inspection standards
Evaluate new testing and sampling methodologies or technologies to determine their usefulness
Direct product testing activities throughout production cycles
Instruct vendors or contractors on quality guidelines, testing procedures, or ways to eliminate deficiencies
Coordinate the selection and implementation of quality control equipment, such as inspection gauges
Monitor the development of new products to help identify possible problems for mass production
Basic Hiring Criteria :
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred and/or 5+ years manufacturing experience
Desired Qualifications :
Must be able to manage multiple priorities and make sound business decisions
Solid mathematical skills
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology - this includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
Solid verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills such as Microsoft Outlook and Office
Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) and from a distance
Ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness
