The OpportunityThe Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering at the Colorado Schoolof Mines seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic leader to head the department. ResponsibilitiesThe department head is expected to work effectively in a collaborative,interdisciplinary environment both within the department and college, andacross the broader campus to:
Provide leadership to enhance the mission and activities of the Department byfostering a vision and strategy to strengthen its research and teaching and toenhance collaboration with other programs across campus;
Promote and support continued professional growth of faculty and staff,particularly in the areas of research program development and educationalinnovation;
Facilitate a world-class environment for research in the Department withactive collaborations with academia, industry, and government agencies;
Advance efforts supporting diversity, inclusion and access;
Represent the Department to the university administration, other universityunits, industry, and to public and private agencies at the local,regional, national, and international levels;
Oversee recruitment of world-class faculty, and facilitate professionaldevelopment, and retention of faculty, staff, and students;
Work closely with associated interdisciplinary programs such as quantitativebiosciences & engineering and materials science to ensure seamlesscurriculum management and recruitment of students and faculty;
Lead fund-raising for Departmental activities, budget preparation, andmanagement;
and Teach courses, advise graduate students, and maintain a leadinginternational research program.
Minimum QualificationsThe department head will be appointed as an academic faculty member at thefull professor level in the department. Therefore, a doctorate in chemicalengineering, or a closely-related field with a distinguished record ofaccomplishment in scholarship, teaching and service as well as national andinternational recognition is required. Administrative experience and/orevidence of successful personnel and financial management are also desired.Strong leadership qualities, including effective interpersonal communicationand organizational skills, are a must. The successful candidate will beexpected to lead the department transparently and collegially. Pay Range:Mines is offering a 9-month, academic year salary of $161,000 -$194,000. This is supplemented with a $20K stipend, a summerstipend, and the opportunity for summer and winter research compensation.
