Under the supervision of the Asst. Director of the Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Technician performs all tasks related to the preparation of a prescription medication and maintenance of the drug inventory
Representative Duties
Accurately and in a timely manner prepares prescriptions for dispensingPrepares prescriptions for dispensing
Accepts medication refill requests from patients
Logs prescription medications out of the pharmacy
Assists with maintaining sample medication storage
Is aware of and follows all pharmacy policies and procedures
Ensures clean and organized work area
Orders drug inventory, receives drug inventory, monitors inventory levels and ensures adequate supply
Interacts with patients and providersAnswers phone and greets patients
Always interacts with customers and coworkers in a patient, professional and respectful manner
Takes all steps to preserve patient confidentiality
Appropriately triages patients to pharmacist when unable to meet requests
Receives new prescriptions from patients and collects patient data for computer entry
Accepts refill requests from patients and providers
Signs prescriptions out of pharmacy, receives payment, processes credit payments
Accurately and in a timely manner performs administrative duties related to prescription processingPrepares claims statements and reconciliations
Checks supplies and prepares forms for use
Maintains organized prescription files
Completes non-computerized claims submission forms and other forms as necessary
Ensures adequate supply of pharmacy forms
Meets Agency Participatory ExpectationAdheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures
Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality
Adheres to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation
Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
Serves on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested
Performs related duties as requiredRequirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Massachusetts registration and national certification as a Pharmacy Technician
At least one year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a retail setting
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills
Strong interest in patient adherence
Maintains patient confidentiality
Experience working with a diverse work staff and patient population
Able to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment
