Employee Services provides the CU community with excellent services from recruitment to retirement. This office provides technical expertise while administering benefits, professional development, payroll, individual tax management, and strategic HR programs. The functional areas of Employee Services include Payroll, Technologies, Benefits, Retirement, Financial Education, Learning and Development, International Tax and Human Resources.
Position Summary:The Payroll and Leave Administrator position sits on the payroll team within Employee Services. This position will administer and advise on the CU FAMLI benefit and supplemental payments. This position will be responsible for understanding the FMLA, FAMLI and related payment rules and enter CU FAMLI pay and adjustments into HCM.
The Payroll and Leave Administrator will assist with reviewing queries to prevent overpayments and collaborate with the payroll and leave teams to research and resolve any payline entry errors. With guidance from the Director of Leave Programs and Assistant Director of Payroll Operations, this position will work to improve and build upon the system-wide centralized program to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations.
This position serves as part of a Payroll cross-functional team consisting of HCM/Payroll Support, Payroll Coordinators, and Payroll Processors. The teams work together, sharing information, with identified campus staff, students, and system users, rotating as determined by team and leadership,
This position will educate customers on appropriate procedures to ensure timely and accurate leave payments and may guide users to the appropriate resource materials and training guides. They will raise issues to other members of the leave and payroll team as appropriate. This person may be responsible for recording contact information and resolutions into the Employee Services ticketing system.
A successful incumbent in this role must have the ability to pay close attention to detail and work through nuanced processes that change based on employee populations and leave scenarios. This position will work in a collaborative environment and must be able to solve problems with other team members. This position will collaborate with other teams including the payroll team, technical administrators, and campus HR partners.
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Payroll Operations and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classification system.
Where You Will Work:This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule, working some days from home and some days in office at 1800 Grant Street.
Description of Job
Duties and Responsibilities:
Administration of the CU FAMLI and Family and Medical Leave Act benefits and supplemental payments.
Collaborate between the leave team and the payroll team to ensure leaves are accurately tracked, paid, and reported in the HCM payroll system.
Run specific queries to help validate that paylines reflect the expected FAMLI earnings and any supplemental earnings.
Coordinate with the leave team on any needed check reversals and ensure that reissues happen timely.
Review a check reversal query and collaborate with the leave team if a reversal was requested by a campus partner and has FAMLI payments.
Build sustainable relationships with both the leave team and payroll team through trust and open and interactive communication.
Other Duties as Assigned
Responsible for researching policies, practices and procedures in order to accurately do the job.
Work with the leave team and campus HR teams to address complex cases.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis)
One (1) year of experience in a payroll, benefits or leave related environment, or similar.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two (2) years’ professional experience related to coordinating and supporting leave programs, or other similar programs, which includes:
Experience with researching and applying federal and state program compliance requirements.
Experience with case management and documentation.
Two (2) years of experience using PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 or other similar Human Resource Information System (HRIS)
Experience with PeopleSoft Payroll for North America and CU MyLeave
Experience working in Higher Education.
Experience working with payroll processing.
Fundamental payroll knowledge
