FT: Infant Toddler Teacher, IrvingGeneral Position DescriptionThe Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns. This position reports to Center Director, Virginia Miller Key ResponsibilitiesCoordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.Ensure a healthy classroom environment including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children, as well as maintaining a clean classroom and bathrooms including sweeping/mopping floors and cleaning sinks/toilets in classrooms.
Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.Maintain accurate records, forms and files; including (but not limited to): Attendance, Meal Count, Health Checks, Ouch Notes, Lesson Plans and Child AssessmentsMaintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement and upload necessary documents and certificates to ASPIRE Must complete 15 training hours per year as required by OCFS. (5 hr. course, Sexual Harassment, Civil Rights CACFP, and Confidentiality Vodcast will be completed as part of initial orientation process) All other duties as assigned by Director and/or Assistant DirectorAdditional Knowledge, Skills and Experience RequiredStrong oral and written communication skills High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment. A strong understanding of child development and DAP or a willingness to learn about child development and Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.Ability to take direction Must complete a full background check and must pass health screening.Educational RequirementsAssociate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or (as defined by OCFS) or Child Development Associate (CDA) Must be 16 years of age or older: Must be 18 years of age or older to be left without supervision.
Physical RequirementsRequirements include the ability to take frequent walks, and easily reach a child in need/danger. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl. Must have no lifting restrictionsEmployment TypeFull Time employees work a 40 hour week. Full Time shifts are 8 1/2 hours and include a half hour unpaid break.
