About Fiber and Utilities Supt.

  The opportunity:

  The Fiber & Utilities Superintendent directs and leads the overall operations of the Fiber and Power areas at the Florence Mill. This position is responsible for creating a safe work environment, executing, and continuously improving the quality, productivity, efficiency, and cost of the operation. The Fiber and Utilities Superintendent reports to the Operations Manager of the Mill.

  How you will impact WestRock:

  Provide leadership to both Power & Recovery and Fiber areas of the Mill (Power, Cogen, Pulp, Woodyard, Recycle, and Caustic Plant)

  Ensure that objectives are set that meet the goals of the business

  Monitor Key Performance Indicator trends

  Oversee the implementation of corrective actions to ensure goals are met

  Manage in a goal-oriented systematic environment to deliver target results in the areas of safety, reliability, cost, quality, productivity, and employee engagement.

  Set expectations and hold both teams and individuals accountable for results.

  Responsibilities include daily management of the operations

  Forward looking capital planning and equipment commissioning

  Supports the continuing personal and professional development of department members

  Develops and manages operational and capital budget plans and works with department supervisors and engineers to establish priorities

  What you need to succeed:

  Bachelor’s degree

  Minimum 10-15 years of related operational experience with Pulp/Paper Industry

  At least 5-7 years of supervisory or management experience required

  Strong leader with demonstrated communication skills and a high sense of urgency and attention to detail

  Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are essential

  Ability to direct continuous improvement in all areas, but with special emphasis on safety, environmental, quality, production, and cost

  Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with employees at all levels of the organization

  Must have excellent oral and written communications skills

  Excellent problem-solving skills

  Excellent planning, organizational, time management and prioritization skills

  Proficient computer skills (MS Office, MS Project, JD Edwards, Panther, etc.)

  Problem Solving/Analysis - Breaks down problems into smaller components, understands underlying issues. Can simplify and process complex issues and information, understands the difference between critical details and unimportant facts, can analyze data/information and draw accurate conclusions.

  Influence & Persuasion - Able to exhibit a ‘can-do’ approach and inspire associates to excel, uses competition to encourage others, develops performance standards and confronts negative attitudes. Develops a team spirit and uses tact when expressing ideas or opinions. Presents new ideas to authority figures and adapts presentations to suit a particular audience. Responds to objections successfully.
