  Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0)

  Shift: Shift 3

  Work Schedule: 12 Hr (7:00:00 PM- 7:00:00 AM), every other weekend

  Summary:

  The Emergency Department Technician facilitates the provision of patient care by performing specific patient care tasks and support functions as delegated by the Registered Nurse. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

  Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the skills and judgments necessary to provide direct care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.

  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship to provide optimal customer-focused care.

  • Communicates effectively with patients at a level appropriate to age and cognitive status, showing sensitivity to cultural diversity.

  • Interacts effectively with peers and other hospital staff to foster positive working relationships.

  • Works collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to assure high levels of patient care.

  • Follows CDC guidelines for hand washing and is alert to follow isolation precautions.

  • Works as a team with nurse(s) to assure that patients feel safe and well cared for while at ROPH.

  • Responsible for the oversight and maintenance of supply inventories within the Emergency Department.

  • Maintains current knowledge/certifications (including CPR and HAZMAT Training).

  • Performs specimen collection, including blood drawing.

  • Rounds on patients to anticipate needs and keep them informed.

  • Documents accurately, timely, and at point-of-care when possible.

  Other information:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Minimum 6 month of experience

  • EMT License required within one (1) year of hire

  • Current CPR/BLS certification

  • Good communication skills

  • Computer skills

  • Good time management and organizational skills

  • Familiarity with patient care equipment

  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts to accommodate staffing.

  • Ability to transport objects, patients and equipment

  • Ability to respond quickly to patient needs with a focus on customer satisfaction.

  • Work environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous, or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sick

  • Ability to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of fire or other disasters

  • Routinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patients.

  • Ability to stand and walk throughput most of designated shift.

  • Ability to stand, walk, lift in weight up to 25 pounds, bend, twist, reach, pull, balance, crouch, or stoop 67-100% of the time.

  • Ability to sit, climb, lift in weight up to 50 pounds, or push 34-66% of the time.

  • Ability to kneel, climb, or carry up to 25 pounds 11-33% of the time.

  • Ability to utilize appropriate lift equipment to carry or lift over 50 pounds.

  • Requires visual and auditory ability, hand dexterity, and speed.

  • Requires hand/eye, eye/foot, and hand/foot coordination.

  • Requires full body mobility and mechanical ability.

  • Requires ability to serve patients across the age continuum.

  • Requires ability to operate glucometers, computers, 12-lead EKG, and other miscellaneous medical equipment.
