  What would a typical day on the job be like? What work would I do?

  The Electrical Specialist in the General Services department performs complex skilled and technical work in the repair, maintenance and installation of electrical system, lines, fixtures, and equipment. At the Specialist level, youll be expected to train and provide guidance, direction, and instruction in electrical systems, and assist with recruiting and selection activities! Day to day, you could be performing a variety of tasks like troubleshooting and repairing electrical lighting and distribution and safety components; installs electrical wiring systems in new and renovated structures around the City.

  Electrical Specialists perform inspections and tests on existing systems to ensure proper function and that the systems are up to national and state codes. Some administrative work will be required like maintaining work order completion records, maintaining activity logs, and inventory of spare parts initiating ordering of replacement supplies and equipment, and maintaining inventory.Due to the importance of this position, it is considered essential, and you will be required to work during and following natural disasters and emergency situations.

  The estimated hiring range for the Electrical Specialistposition is$56,611.89 - $66,457.43,based on education and experience.

  What are the qualifications for this position?

  High School Diploma

  5-7 years of experience in the servicing, maintenance and repair of electrical systems or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  A Master Electricians License from the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation must be obtained within one year of employment.

  OR

  An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  Acceptable general background check to include a state and local criminal history check and a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record will also be required.
