Level 2 Special Education Paraprofessional Job DescriptionPurpose: The Level 2 Special Education Paraprofessional assists thespecialeducation and general education instructors in creating a positivelearning environment to facilitate thepersonal, social, and intellectual development of students. Toaccomplish these tasks, the paraprofessionalworks closely with the staff and administration of Derby PublicSchools.Responsible to: Director of Special Services and Principal Salary:Special Education Schedule, Level 2Classification of Employment: Non-Exempt Date: July 2019Qualifications: 1. High school diploma orequivalent. 2. Demonstrated commitment to career development andlife-long learning. 3. If assigned to aTitle I school must have at least 48 hours or pass a paraassessment test. Essential Functions: 1. Knowledge, Skill and Abilitiesa. Assist students with activities ofdaily life as required for their participationin the school environment. b. Assist in facilitating the personal,social and intellectual development ofstudents as required by the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and/orsupervising teacher.c. Assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respondto the individual needs of students.d. Teach job-related skills, home maintenance and appropriate safetypractices in a variety of settings andcircumstances.e. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines. f.Communicate effectively with patrons andstaff of the school district. g. React to change productively and handleother tasks as assigned. h.Appropriately operate all classroom equipment. i. Support the value ofan education. j. Support thephilosophy and mission of the cooperative and school district. k. Adhereto district, state and federalconfidentiality policies. l. Comply with all district policies, rulesand regulations.2. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: a. Requires theability to sit and/or stand forprolonged periods. b. Requires the ability to manually move, lift,carry, pull, or push heavyobjects or materials. c. Requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crawl,bend, turn, and reach. d. Requires theability to climb and balance. e. Must be able to work indoors andoutdoors year-round. f. Must be able towork in noisy and crowded environments. g. Must be able to work in andaround dust, fumes, and odors.h. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.General Responsibilities: 1. Assist inthe instruction and supervision of students during structured andunstructured daily activities. 2. Ensure that proper safety practicesare followed at all times. 3. Properlymaintain all equipment and materials. 4. Observe, record and reportstudent behavior to the designatedcertified provider. 5. Monitor student progress and report as required.6. Use appropriate behaviormanagement techniques to maintain a positive climatefor learning. 7. Motivate students through effective communication andevaluative feedback. 8. Set highexpectations for student achievement and behavior. 9. Demonstrateeffective interpersonal relationshipswith others. 10. Assist in providing support for the unique physicalneeds of assigned students. 11.Escort/transport assigned students to and from various school facilitiesandareas. 12. Provide daily feeding and/or mealtime supervision, toilet andhygiene care forassigned students as needed. 13. Assist supervising teacher to prepareinstructional materials and suppliesfor use. 14. Work effectively with students, teachers, parents,community agencies and otherindividuals with an educational investment in student progress. 15.Assist in safeguarding confidentialinformation. 16. Adhere to required program guidelines a defined by theKansas Plan for SpecialEducation. 17. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas andtechniques. 18. Adhere to alldistrict and health and safety policies. 19. Other duties as assigned bythe instructor, principal or Directorof SpecialServices which, are consistent with the general requirements andqualifications for the position.
