  Requirements

Director of Student Programs - Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs - Georgetown University

  Job Overview

The Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs (https://berkleycenter.georgetown.edu/) (“the Center”) seeks a more just and peaceful world by deepening knowledge and solving problems at the intersection of religion and global affairs through research, teaching, and engaging multiple publics. Two premises guide the center’s work: that a comprehensive examination of religion and norms is critical to address complex global challenges, and that the open engagement of religious and cultural traditions with one another can promote peace. To this end, the center engages students, scholars, policymakers, and practitioners in analysis of and dialogue on critical issues in order to increase the public understanding of religion.

The Director of Student Programs (“DSP”) manages the Center’s curricular and co-curricular student programs. This work includes managing the Religions, Ethics, and World Affairs (“REWA”) minor, including student recruitment and advising, as well as the Doyle Engaging Difference Program (“Doyle Program”), which promotes the constructive engagement of religious, cultural, and other differences inside and outside the classroom.

Two core components of the Doyle Program are the Doyle Global Dialogue (for students studying abroad) and the Doyle Difference and Dialogue Courses. The DSP also oversees a range of student-centered interfaith and intercultural dialogue programs and events, including those organized under the auspices of the Center’s Culture of Encounter Project.

  Work Interactions

The DSP reports to the Director and Executive Director of the Center, collaborates with Center faculty and staff on Center curricular and co-curricular programs, and oversees a program associate and several undergraduate and graduate research assistants.

They serve as an advisor to undergraduates minoring in REWA, closely with advising Deans in across Georgetown’s undergraduate schools, and interact with students and student organizations in the context of the Doyle Program and intercultural and interfaith dialogue activities. In developing and executing Center programs, they liaise with campus partners, including the Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching and Service, the Office of Mission and Ministry, and the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS), as well as partners external to the university.

  Requirements and Qualifications

M.A. degree in a field related to the Center’s work

  Experience with student program management

  Preferred Qualifications

Experience in programming and/or pedagogy related to intercultural and/or interreligious dialogue

Experience developing curricular and co- curricular student programs

Training in pedagogical methods such as intergroup dialogue and/or curriculum development
