We are looking for an exceptional senior Government Affairs professional to join the EU Government Affairs team in Brussels, part of Communications and Government Affairs Europe. They will report directly to the Head of Corporate and Regional Government Affairs, Brussels.
The EU Government Affairs (GA) team develops and drives the company strategy for the EU by bringing in the external voice, driving GSK's policy positioning in Europe and shaping our operating environment through direct external engagement with EU stakeholders. Each team member is a highly efficient and experienced lobbyist, with clear responsibilities for driving their files and ensuring commercial and reputational success. The EU Government Affairs Director will be a central player in the co-development and execution of the EU GA strategy, leading engagement with government institutions, trade associations, think-tanks, and other relevant partners, to shape policy and legislation relevant to GSK business, particularly in view of upcoming EU elections.
The Director EU GA will lead on a range of issues related to the European Union, acting as GSK's eyes and ears to the EU institutions and as point of contact for key policy files related to the European region (Trade, Industrial strategy, Pandemic Preparedness and Global Health) and will co-shape advocacy on IP related matters. They will also contribute to wider advocacy efforts in the context of the revision of EU pharmaceutical legislation and will drive engagement on the EU IP package (SPC and CL). They will also support GSK advocacy activities in Brussels to support commercial launches and strategic therapeutic areas.
Responsibilities include: Lead and shape Brussels advocacy strategy and engagement on key pharma topics for GSK's Strategy for the EU, such as Trade, Industrial policy, Pandemic Preparedness, Global Health.Support Head of Brussels office in developing and executing EU engagement strategies to advance IPTc priorities, particularly on IP and competitiveness, and reputational plans based on superior knowledge of current trends and developments in key institutions.Represent the company in interaction with government officials/advocacy groups/industry associations/ academic bodies, etc.Involvement with trade associations is also part of this role to ensure that GSK business interests are taken into consideration.Shape and deliver action plans that ensure GSK has a strong network built on trust and credibility with stakeholders of influence, including both governmental functions (MEPs, Commission, Council) and non-governmental stakeholders (NGOs, IGOs, patient associations).Mapping of stakeholders, relationship management, alliance building and lobbying are part of the role responsibilities.Monitoring external environment and communicating key issues affecting the organization to the relevant people within.Policy analysis and leveraging of internal expertise in order to develop GSK policy positions and plan for the implementation of the appropriate strategies to address and drive the respective issue.The Director provides insight into the business, participates in and contributes towards the formulation of business strategies as well as policies and strategies of Government Affairs and Policy at EU level.Organization of events, delegation visits, high-level meetings. Activities include, logistics, relations with third parties, internal coordination with relevant functions, drafting briefings for senior leaders.Gather and assess intelligence and use it to report on the EU policy agenda, as well as the wider external social, economic and political developments in Brussels of enterprise interest. Support the development of internal reports and contribute to the execution of a regular EU report.Manage internal cross-functional network of experts to advance policies on files of responsibility.Why you?
Basic qualifications (Required):Minimum 7 years' experience in policy, public affairs or government relations, acquired in multinational company, public affairs agency or trade association, with minimum 3 years in the EU policy environment.Strong understanding of EU politics and policy-making processes and proven knowledge of pharmaceutical policyAbility to work independently and collaboratively, as required, in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal team members;Excellent command of English (written and spoken) required. Fluency in another European language is preferred.Excellent presentation skills including effective listening, writing, verbal and formal presentational skills.Intellectual curiosity, results orientation, analytical and strategic thinking, eye for businessStrong communication and negotiation skills; ability to interact at high level and to brief senior executives in a comprehensive and concise manner;Behavioral flexibility, cultural understanding and experience of working internationally across multiple and varied cultures,Positive attitude, good team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships of trust across all levels of organisations and governments.Passion for healthcare and innovation Desirable :Strong understanding of industrial, Trade/IP and international/EU healthcare policy.Well-established external network of EU institutional stakeholders.Master's Degree in EU Studies, Political Science, Economics / Finance or Business, Law or similarWorking proficiency level in German or other EU language #LI-GSK
