About Dental Assistant 1 Lead

In addition to regular Dental Assistant duties, the Dental Assistant Lead works in collaboration with management in developing and maintaining office efficiencies and serves as a mentor and coach in providing feedback and direction for the dental assistant team. Proposes and implements ideas for best practices as it relates to office efficiencies, patient care and strategic goals. Ensure compliance of all health and safety requirements. The Lead will also have responsibilities over Dental Assistants and is responsible for personal professional development as well as the team’s development.

Essential Position Functions:

Propose and implement process improvements; ensure current office procedures are performed efficiently and effectively.

Support management by ensuring teams provide high standards of patient care at all times; provide recommendations to improve quality of patient care.

Support management by providing input and feedback on various matters regarding dental assistants, such as annual reviews, employee counseling, staffing, scheduling, interviewing and hiring and provide staff oversight in the absence of management.

Serve as a mentor for other dental assistants in acquiring new skills, knowledge or credentials; provide coaching, feedback, and direction to promote highly effective teams.

Serve as point person for the coordination of student observers as well as externs.

Perform on-boarding and training for new hires.

Track x-ray exposure badges and x-ray retakes.

Ensure all team members required training is completed timely.

Communicate and provide updates on company developments and changes related to role.

Coordinate and facilitate dental assistant meetings and huddles; participates in monthly staff meetings, leading when necessary.

Attend lead dental assistant meetings and communicate information to the management team at the office level.

Responsible for inventory, ordering and receiving of all back office supplies. Anticipate supply and equipment needs as they pertain to budget planning. Justify capital expenditures when necessary.

Maintain and track dental office maintenance and monitoring schedules, ensure daily, weekly and monthly tasks and documentation are delegated and completed; post records and provide to Practice Manager and Health and Safety.

Serve as point of contact for equipment services and hazardous waste disposal; maintain records pertaining to equipment repair and replacement and hazardous waste and sharps disposal.

Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety Regulations including, but not limited to: infection control, personal protective equipment, sharps management, and additional protocol as outlined by state, government and company guidelines.

Flexibility to travel to other WDG locations within a reasonable range as described in our Travel Policy as needed based on business need.

Non Essential Position Functions:

Monitor and maintain lab work quality, inventory, efficiencies and flow; obtain and renew BLS certification.

Additional duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Required:

Graduation from a recognized dental assisting program or equivalent experience with a minimum of two years working experience and two years of company experience preferred.Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:

Qualified and skilled in radiology techniques, including state certification, if required.

Ability to perform expanded dental assisting functions. Certifications for sealant application and soft relines, if required by state regulations. (EFDA and/or EFODA certifications are required in Oregon and Idaho.)

Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) preferred.

Oral Surgery Assistants will be required to obtain either DAANCE or OMSA certification within their first year of assisting an Oral Surgeon.

Ability to perform restorative functions preferred with appropriate credential by state.

Knowledge of:

Thorough knowledge and an advocate of the WDG’s treatment philosophy, evidence based dentistry, managed care and capitated business model.

Subject matter expert of dental etiology, anatomy and all dental procedures. Skilled within entire scope of practice/credentials.

Skill In:

Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build rapport, trust and communication diplomatically with both patients and co-workers.

Strong organizational skills.

Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and crucial conversations.

Ability to:

Travel to other Willamette Dental office may be required on an ongoing basis

Demonstrated ability to communicate dental procedures and concepts effectively.

Demonstrated ability to lead others and effectively provide direction and support in accomplishing tasks and projects. Ability to effectively provide both constructive and positive feedback.

Demonstrates eagerness to embrace and promote changes occurring with the company.

Desire to stay current and obtain new knowledge and/or skills related to essential job functions.

Identify areas of opportunity and initiate solutions. Proactive in developing solutions to increase patient satisfaction and improve work processes and practices.

Demonstrates the ability to work independently and collaboratively with office and dental teams under varying conditions.

Lead by example in the practice of evidence based dental assistant treatments.

Consistently demonstrate the ability to represent Willamette Dental Group in a professional manner under any and all circumstances.

Physical Requirements:

The work is primarily performed while sitting and/or standing, but will require occasional walking, bending, stooping and carrying light items such as papers, books, or other supplies. The incumbent uses a computer and other standard office equipment to complete tasks.Company Overview
