JOB OVERVIEW The Community Engagement Organizer isresponsible for developing and implementing a program to shift publicpolicy decision-making power to people with lived experience of hungerand poverty and to train community members to advocate for effectivepolicies that address food insecurity and its underlying causes. SOME OFTHE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develop and implement plans to engage cohorts ofcommunity members with lived/living experience of poverty to raisepublic awareness about food insecurity and its underlying causes throughadvocacy. Create and implement a grassroots advocacy training programfor these community engagement teams. Engage the community cohorts toparticipate in the annual development of the Food Bank?s public policypriorities. Execute local and/or state advocacy campaigns incollaboration with community engagement teams Support members of thecommunity engagement teams with ongoing outreach with legislators,decision-makers, and others with lived experience of poverty.Collaborate with the Public Policy Manager, the Food Bank advocacycommittee, community engagement teams, and statewide partners to helpdevelop and carry out the Food Bank?s advocacy strategies at the stateand federal level. WORKING CONDITIONS Onsite work at the Food Bankoffice in Chicopee; some remote work is available if desired In-personmeetings with stakeholders in the community or at the Food Bank Frequenttravel within Western Massachusetts with eventual travel to Bostonand/or Washington, DC on occasion JOB SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTSAssociates Degree or equivalent; extensive experience counts towarddegree 2-4 years of experience with community, small groupcollaboration, and/or coalition building. Very strong written and verbalcommunication skills, including the ability to present information tosmall and large groups succinctly, clearly, and professionally and theability to communicate effectively with others in person, on the phone,by email, and by social media Computer skills including: Ability to editand format professional documents including memos, reports, and lettersAbility to input, manipulate, and format data, and to read andunderstand spreadsheets Ability to conduct online research Strongdiplomatic, motivational, and interpersonal skills Demonstrated strongorganizational and time management skills Ability to work well within ateam and to be flexible in a changing environment Ability to travelthroughout Western MA with reliable transportation.
