Biomaterials is a new Strategic Business Unit (SBU) at Rayonier Advanced Materials (RYAM). RYAM is well-positioned to substantially grow the SBU across a portfolio of new products including biofuels and biochemicals.The Head of Business Development will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive business plan to position the SBU to realize growth potential. The role will focus on innovation in new business segments, introducing new products to new and existing markets. The scope is global with a focus on Europe and North America. The role will be based in Jacksonville, FL, and will require 20-30% travel.This position is expected to uphold the mission and values established by RYAM.
How you’ll shape the future:
Participates in strategy development for the Biomaterials SBU plan:
Monitors external environment to inform market and customer segment analysis.
Studies internal capabilities to identify and leverage competitive strengths in growth plans.
Identifies new market and product opportunities.
Provides new market and product development analysis as critical input into SBU strategy.
Responsible for opportunity assessments and market plans for the Biomaterials Business Development program:
Conducts feasibility studies for new product development, spanning technical and commercial evaluation.
Collaborates with internal team to assess and develop opportunities, including market, competitors, customers, production, regulations/policy, and financial elements.
Liaises with external industry organizations and strategic partners as a resource for new market and product opportunity analysis and development.
Develops business plans (commercial and production elements) with the SBU Finance department including volumes, pricing, financial, and risk analysis.
Develops and drives execution of market plans for new products including budgets, expenditures, and resource management.
Coordinates internal team, partners, external organizations, and consultants to mobilize priority opportunities.
Negotiates and manages contracts, where appropriate.
Ensures objectives are achieved within budget and timelines.
Responsible for performance evaluation and continuous improvement of business development activities:
Assists in the development of evaluation processes for each core component of the role: strategy, opportunity assessment, plan development, implementation, and go-to-market.
Conducts assessments to gain feedback from constituents.
Interprets feedback / data, recommends actions to improve, and leads performance improvement.
Works with highly sensitive trade secrets and business confidential technical information. Protection of this information is vital to the Company and is a requirement of the position.
Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, RYAM policies, RYAM’s Standard of Ethics and Code of Corporate Conduct.

You’ll be someone who can bring:
Master of Science, Engineer, Technical focus; MBA preferred.
Minimum 5 years of commercial experience.
Project management skills.
Demonstrated negotiations and contract management skills.
Demonstrated experience developing and commercializing new products or new business segments.
This role may require 20-30% international travel.
Experience in NA and EU regulatory issues related to new product introduction and commercialization.
International experience really appreciated, with exposure in EU/Asian, US market and customers.
Strong computer skills and the ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in multicultural environment.
Ability to independently lead project teams and organize team activities.
Verbal and written fluency in English and French required.
