About Assistant Director, Peacemaker Program

  Harlem Children's Zone, Inc (HCZ) is a multi-site, multi-program community organization that provides a unique and comprehensive interlocking network of education, social and health services to tens of thousands of children and adults in Central Harlem. The majority of the children HCZ works with go to public schools and attend its engaging after-school programs. Whether in its Promise Academy charter schools or public-school afterschool program, HCZ has the same high standards and expectations for all its children-ensuring that all of them are on track to attend college and successfully graduate. HCZ's overarching goal is to create a "tipping point" in the neighborhood so that children are surrounded by an enriching environment of college-oriented peers and supportive adults. Nationally and internationally recognized as a thought leader with a generation of proof of its early and progressive intervention programs, HCZ has been lauded by The New York Times as "one of the most ambitious social-policy experiments of our time."

  The Harlem Peacemaker program supports elementary and middle schools, providing a high-quality after-school program as well as summer programming. All the programs are operated under the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene School Aged Childcare (SACC). The programs provide young people and their families with the support and services that enable them to have a vision of a productive future.

  We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented professional with program and/or project management experience to lead and coordinate the day-to-day activities of one of four after school programs. The Assistant Program Director is an integral part of the core management team and is responsible for providing and executing vision, support, and direction to a team of manager level employees, as well as part-time staff. Additionally, the Assistant Program Director is responsible for maintaining excellent relationships with the key program stakeholders and community members.

  Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  Direct staff to ensure efficient, successful delivery of program services. Develop programs, procedures and processes where needed, including student services, operations, as well as staffing and budgets. Enforce all program policies and procedures to ensure the safety of students and staff and compliance with regulations enumerated by the Department of Health and the School Age Child Care license requirements. Develop workshops and educational opportunities that encourage academic enrichment across targeted demographics. Ensure all data is ready for instantaneous communication with members of the Senior Management team. Monitor academic progress of program participants. Help establish, manage, and coordinate activities and events for program participants. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, schools, and parents to meet the needs of children and families. Supervise a team of Coordinators, Instructors, Teachers, and Activity Specialists Mentor and develop program staff, including managing and tracking work and evaluating performance. Performs other duties as assigned.

  Qualification, Skill and Knowledge Requirements

  A demonstrated commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of progressive educational or social service experience Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues prevalent in underserved communities of color. Demonstrated record of meeting and exceeding goals and positively impacting children, their families, and the community as a whole Proven ability to deal with parents and children in an educational/social service setting. Strong management skills, including ability to develop others. Outstanding project and case management skills Excellent writing and communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook Ability to work flexible hours, as required by the demands of the program.

  We offer competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including fully employer-covered health benefits. The salary range is $60,000-$70,000.
