  JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  The Penn State Smeal Business Career Center (BCC) is seeking a candidate for the assistant director of graduate career services position to work with graduate students on resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, in-person and virtual workshop design and delivery, engagement with employers, and encourage professionalism and integrity consistent with the Smeal Honor Code and Penn State Values. This position will report to the senior director of professional graduate career services.

  Responsibilities include meeting with students during orientation, individual student appointments, drop-ins, town halls, classroom visits, workshops or programs, and staffing BCC events such as career fairs. This position works on a team of 12 staff including four dedicated graduate career services staff. The graduate career services team is responsible for supporting approximately 350-400 students in the following one-year graduate programs: Accounting, MBA, Business Analytics, Finance, Real Estate Analysis and Development, and Supply Chain Management. The focus of this role is to provide direct guidance and service to domestic and international graduate students in compliance activities in support of U.S. Government and federal labor laws.

  The successful candidate must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate successfully with students, staff, faculty, and university leadership. Strong writing and editing skills are essential as well as the ability to successfully work as a member of a collaborative team. Other essential qualities include strong organizational skills, critical thinking/problem solving, attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, d iscretion in handling confidential information, ability to work independently, and the ability to adapt quickly to changes in systems and procedures. This position will require successful completion of standard background checks. 

  The Business Career Center is supportive of flexible work arrangements when aligned with the ability to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, combining in-person and remote work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.

  This position typically requires a Master’s Degree or higher in Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related discipline. ) plus three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
