  Position Summary

  In keeping with Cornell's Land Grant Mission to create and apply knowledge with a public purpose, the Department of Food Science strives to apply the principles of science and engineering to ensure the nutritional value, safety and quality of foods in the United States and around the globe. Our programs integrate the disciplines of chemistry, biology, nutrition, physiology, biotechnology, and engineering to ensure that all people have access to healthy, affordable food. Our faculty, staff and students are making a difference in the lives of people throughout the world.

  This individual will financially oversee several strategic operations for the Department of Food Science (Cornell Dairy Plant, Food Processing Development Lab (FPDL), , Big Red Cheddar (BRC), Working closely with the managers for each operation, set operating budgets, routinely meet with manager, ensure financial active is properly tracked in QuickBooks, assist with pricing strategies, prepare financial reports, and work closely with manager to ensure operations are achieving their financial goals. As the financial lead of these business, meet with key customer leadership as necessary to improve business.

  Required Qualifications:

  Associates Degree and 4 to 6 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.Proven ability to function in a multicultural environment.Working knowledge of standard office systems Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), andQuickBooks experience. The Cornell Dairy Plant, FPDL, BRC use QuickBooks Enterprise.Strong customer service skills, including contact with corporate partner's staff.Knowledge of current social media (e.g., Facebook, twitter, Linked In).Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects, demonstrate flexibility, adapt to changes and provide consistent and accurate information.Must be willing to take initiative to anticipate needs of program and fulfill program objectives with minimal supervision.Previous finance, budget and accounting experience and experience with report preparation and analysis.Ability to independently coordinate programs and manage activities.Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
