Ensuring Chart’s Success…
Chart’s R&D activities are vital in developing new technologies and products for Chart’s growing product portfolio. Chart’s New Prague MN location is currently seeking candidates interested in the position of R&D Fabrication Specialist. Candidates must be able to perform a wide range of hands-on skills including welding, metal fabricating, electrical wiring, operating cryogenic equipment (pumps, VFDs, hydraulics), and various other R&D related assembly. Observation and communication skills are utilized to see and report test details and abnormalities to engineers.
What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…
Perform activities related to the operation and maintenance of the R&D lab as well as the hydrogen test site
Perform welding, grinding, plasma cutting, bolting, assembling, and other related manufacturing activities with minimal instruction and supervision
Layout, assemble and fabricate test setups according to drawings, work instructions, and weld procedures.
Take pictures of test set-ups and updates to be sent to engineers.
Assemble test setups consisting of cryogenic liquid and pressurized gas systems (tanks and piping components).
Move and set up DUTs (device under test) and equipment via forklift, overhead hoist, pallet jacks, etc.
Collect parts and materials from the stockroom, maintenance, or other sources.
Run instrumentation wiring, solder connections, connect to data acquisition devices.
Connect to transmitters to program zero & span and to troubleshoot problems.
Transfer liquid nitrogen and liquid CO 2 via pressure or pump operations.
Utilize visual examination.
Conduct tests and record data for others to analyze.
Use critical thinking to troubleshoot unknown issues with tests, cryogenic system inconsistencies, and report new discoveries.
Observe and practice safety procedures and policies, participate in safety program and department meetings.
Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
Your Education Should Be…
Technical welding diploma or equivalent work experience.
Print reading course including welding symbols.
Forklift training
Knowledge of Chart systems & locations
Electrician training is a plus
Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…
Exposure to metal cutting, welding odors, welding flash and incidental acceptable limits of x-ray radiation.
Possible exposure to chemical odors and temperature extremes.
Exposure to systems of pressurized gases and cryogenic fluids.
Most work is inside, but much work can be outside at any time of year
Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and occasional crawling.
Frequent lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs. and occasionally heavier (50-60 lbs.)
Frequent pushing, pulling, and handling of materials as well as repetitive hand movements during welding.
Your Professional Experience Should Be…
Ability to comprehend complex blueprints and weld symbols.
10+ years of experience performing GMAW, GTAW, and Sub-arc welding for carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Previous experience with soldering pipes, valves, and electrical connections.
Ability to accurately measure using devices such as tape measures, micrometers, calipers, weigh scales, multi-meters, Hart communicators, flow meters, and pressure gauges.
Ability to use a variety of hand tools including drills, grinders, saws, welders, plasma cutters, mills, lathes, brake presses, shears, and other tools used in metal fabrication.
Successful ability to pass numerous Chart welding certification tests.
