Typical Duties:
Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.Lays out, positions, and fits components together.Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, or gas welding equipment.May assemble parts by bolting and riveting.May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools.Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:Educational and experience requirements include: High school diploma or equivalent. Should be able to: Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked; Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy; Look at flat drawings, pictures, and blueprints and visualize how they would look as solid objects with height, width, and depth.
Physical Requirements:Must be able to: Lift and carry objects weighing no more than 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; Climb up on and balance on ladders, scaffolding, or stairs; See well (either naturally or with correction); Stand for long periods; Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl to reach hard to get at work areas; and use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects.
