Job/Position Summary
This leadership position is responsible for all procurement functionssupporting global business units and operations. Departmental objectivesand key priorities are determined in conjunction with the SeniorLeadership Team as business plans are developed and executed.Subordinate responsibilities include managers, buyers and supplierdevelopment engineers at most global locations supporting material costand vendor deliverables for all Strategic Business Units.
As part of leading the procurement organization, this position, togetherwith the cross-functional leadership team, establishes specific goalsand plans for supplier quality, delivery and cost for parts/services andmonitors the progress toward achievement of those goals. Standardpurchasing practices are used to carry out those goals and trackperformance toward their achievement. Commodity management skills arenecessary for implementation of commodity, supplier and value chainstrategies. Required leadership skills will include, but not be limitedto, evaluating, and implementing new and innovative ways to purchasegoods and services (consignment, supplier-managed inventories, commoditystrategies etc.), development of negotiating strategies and supply baserationalization (expansion and reduction) as needed.
Major Areas of Responsibility
This position is responsible for procurement of all goods and servicesin accordance with established commodity strategies, company policiesand purchasing procedures. This includes leading teams that initiate andevaluate quotations from suppliers, evaluate overall capability ofpotential new suppliers, de-source suppliers as per strategic plans,on-site quality system auditing, negotiating, and implementing long-termagreements while working with suppliers and internal personnel to solvequality and delivery issues related to purchased parts.
New Product Development support including supplier evaluation,selection, and qualification. Teams under the guidance of this positionare responsible for the purchasing aspects of new programs underdevelopment. This includes areas such as source evaluation andselection, make/buy analysis, price, and delivery negotiation. Work in ateam environment is required with representatives from other disciplinesthroughout the company to ensure suppliers are involved early in thedesign phase of a program. This, along with effective sourcing andnegotiating, will contribute to making sure new products and programsare launched with high quality at the best value.
