  GENERAL SUMMARY

  Under the guidance of the Director, President, & Chief Executive officer (or other senior leader), the Vice President , Exhibition and Collection Strategies (ECS) is responsible for visio n, strategic leadership , and managerial oversight for the Exhibitions, Registration, Collections Management, and Conservation departments consistently improving organizational effectiveness to achieve overall museum goals and strategy . The Vice President , ECS serves as a member of the DIA’s executive leadership team and l ead s the directors responsible for the planning and implementation of special exhibitions, permanent gallery reinstallations, gallery projects, acquisitions, deaccessions, storage renovations, loans, publishing, conservation, and long-term preservation of the collection in support of the DIA’s vision, mission , values, and strategic goals.

  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  Lead the division, determining priorities and goals, scheduling, and annual budget ensuring that department resources and staff support the museum's strategic goals and annual museum-wide goals, and that those goals are met on schedule and within budget.  

  Lead and direct the implementation of workplace culture programs that improve processes, communication, and collaboration in the division with the goal of establishing and maintaining a highly performing work environment characterized by professional excellence, strategic thinking, personal accountability, strong customer service, collegiality and creative problem solving.

  Recruit, mentor, develop and successfully manage a team to achieve the strategic objectives and the present and future needs of the department in alignment with the museum’s annual priorities and strategic vision.

  Create a collaborative work environment by using a performance support process including goal setting, feedback, and development.

  Contribute to the creation and implementation of the museum's strategic plans and to the development and effective communication of strategic goals, planning initiatives, policies and resource allocations as related to the division’s core responsibilities.

  Collaborate with the Development Department and the Director, President, and CEO in pursuit of funds (gifts, grants, in-kind relationships) to build the endowment and to fund museum-wide and division initiatives, personnel, and equipment.

  Lead the division in community outreach and visitor engagement in fulfillment of community partnerships that build support for the DIA in the counties and state.

  Fulfill division leadership responsibilities for performance planning and management processes, and guidance of professional development.

  Foster, promote, and support Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) through the DIA values, active listening, embracing difference, and engaging with empathy to promote a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders.   

  Performs other related duties as assigned or requested .

  QUALIFICATIONS

  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  Master’s degree in art history , a rts m anagement, f ine a rts , c onservation, or related field . A minimum of 15 years of experience with progressive responsibility in varied museum or cultural institution areas such as exhibition planning and implementation , collections management, conservation, registration , or operations . Seven (7) years of leadership experience, with five (5) years of direct supervisory experience . Demonstrated project management experience required . Additional years of experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  Working Knowledge of current and emerging trends in museums and professional standards, e.g., American Alliance of Museums (AAM) Standards and Best Practices, American Institute for Conservation (AIC) ethics and standards of practice, American Association of Museum Directors (AAMD) Standards and Best Practices.

  Must be a strategic thinker with the ability to plan and execute goals and objectives across multiple departments.  

  Must possess excellent leadership skills and the ability to lead diverse teams to meet museum strategic goals supporting the museum strategy and vision.  

  Demonstrated collaboration skills to work across departments and divisions internally and with diverse stakeholders externally.   

  Demonstrated ability to be an engaged listener with the ability to build consensus within the Museum and with diverse stakeholders externally.  

  Demonstrated ability to make creative, effective, and timely decisions aligned with organizational mission, vision, values, and strategic direction considering risk and long-term impacts. 

  Demonstrated experience with budget management including budget development and stewardship of resources and demonstrated fiscal responsibility to stay within budget.   

  Demonstrated ability to speak publicly, including presenting or sharing information in a clear, effective, and engaging manner suited to the audience. 

  Demonstrated ability to share complex information, ideas, and instructions clearly, effectively, and professionally to diverse audiences through talking or writing. 

  Ability to respond calmly and make decisions in urgent and emergency situations. 

  Must possess a demonstrated understanding of ethical business conduct and professional practices including maintenance and protection of confidential and sensitive information.   

  Must be able to successfully manage conflict, experience with mediation preferred. 

  Must demonstrate excellent negotiation skills. 

  Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple priorities/projects, and meet deadlines, as well as strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.   

  Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional weekends, evenings, and holidays to meet operational and emergency needs.     

  Ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed. 

  Must be proficient in the latest version of Microsoft Office 365. 

  Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.  

  Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork. This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.
