EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 62,888 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Vocational Counselor to work full time for the Suffolk Judicial Diversion Court Program.
The Vocational Counselor position is a non-exempt position paying $30 per hour. Work schedules includes a Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM.. The office is located in Central Islip, NY. The role reports to Program Director.

Primary Purpose of Job:
The Vocational Counselor is responsible for providing counseling, vocational assistance, job development and placement with economic self-sufficiency as the objective of the counseling process to participants of the Suffolk County Suffolk County Judicial Diversion Court.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform vocational assessments.
Administer, score and interpret aptitude, interest and work sample tests when appropriate.
Provide on-going counseling to develop vocational and educational plans based on education, employment background, expressed interest and career exploration activities.
Conduct follow-up counseling sessions to review progress toward established goals.
Function as agency liaison with vocational agencies such as ACCES-VR, One-Stop
Employment centers, etc.
Collaborate with team to address all barriers to employment to best prepare client for job placement and retention including providing resume preparation assistance and resolving employment related problems.
Conduct soft skills workshops for clients that may include topics such as Interviewing Techniques, Time Management, etc.
Maintain individual client case files and database entries for all clients.
Participate in case conferences, team meetings, in-service workshops and seminars.
Explore and become familiar with community resources for referral purposes.
Assist with program GPRA data collection.
Perform drug testing if needed.
Prepare required forms and keep statistics on client contacts, referrals, job activities, etc.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Minimum of a Bachelors degree in human service or a behavioral science and one year of career counseling experience or High School Diploma or educational equivalent and three years career counseling experience required.
Experience working with the criminal justice and substance abusing population. OWDS certification preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
Must have access to car and possess a valid New York State Drivers License.
