  Job Summary:The Visitor Engagement Associate (VEA) is the primary point of contact for museum members and visitors to the Honolulu Museum of Art (HoMA). VEAs provide exemplary customer service and ensure a world-class visitor experience at all museum entry points at the main campus, the Doris Duke Theatre, and the Art School. VEAs are enthusiastic in assisting members and visitors with all inquiries related to museum programming, events, and offerings.Visitor Engagement Associates attend routine enrichment training with museum supervising staff in departments such as Development, Curatorial, Collections, Security, and the Theater.

  The Honolulu Museum of Art:Opened in 1927, the Honolulu Museum of Art is a home for art and education created for the benefit of the entire community. Founder Anna Rice Cooke envisioned a museum that would bring people together through the power of art and the deep intuitions that are common to all. The museum was conceived of as a place of meaningful exchange and dialogue, celebrating the diverse artistic and cultural traditions of Hawaiis multi-ethnic population. From this founding intention grew the museum of today, with a world-class encyclopedic collection of more than 55,000 works of art, representing a stunning breadth of places and eras, from all corners of the globe and from the ancient past to the present day.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  High School Diploma and one year travel industry or customer service-related experience with a point-of-sale (POS) system.Must enjoy working with the public, meeting new people, and partnering with volunteers.Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to assist and communicate well with a diverse group of people in a positive, professional, and courteous manner to foster strong customer relations.Able to exercise good judgment and maintain a calm demeanor in challenging situations.Strong computer literacy skills.Must have an interest in the Honolulu Museum of Art and an enthusiastic willingness to assist visitors to the museum.Ability to work during special events throughout the year as needed.Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, perspective, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through.Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees.Desired Qualifications:

  Experience with cashiering duties, including end- of- day reconciliation.Experience with Tessitura ticketing system and/or other ticketing and database softwareMuseum and/or arts non-profit experience.Having an interest in museums, arts, culture, and our community.Japanese language fluency.Understanding of Honolulu Museum of Arts established identity and dedication to advancing it.Essential Duties:

  Welcomes all visitors to the museum in a friendly and professional manner.Checks in and onboards/offboards visitors on private shuttles for tours to Shangri La when necessary.Processes admissions, memberships, Art School courses, tour, film, concern, and museum event and activation tickets into museum point-of-sale system.Keeps aware of all museum activities in all locations, including Beretania Street, Art School, Robert Allerton Library, Shangri La, and Doris Duke Theatre, effectively promoting all museum programs and offerings.Nimbly operates at different areas of the museum, including Phone Lines and Email Operations, Doris Duke Theatre, Robert Allerton Library and Art School.Maintains accurate knowledge of museum membership levels and benefits, actively promoting membership value to visitors or lapsed members.Responds courteously to all inquirie . Remains calm and composed under all situations. Invites visitors to offer feedback about their experience and records customer service issues and insights.Works effectively with volunteers, greeting and directing them to their check-in points and supervisors for designated assignments.Attends enrichment training sessions and assists museum events as scheduled.Collects accurate survey data when necessary.Other duties as assigned.CompensationThe Honolulu Museum of Art is committed to practicing salary transparency. The salary for this position is $16.00 per hour. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting pay, including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity. For PT employees, our benefits include:

  20 hours of sick leave accrued per year, with a maximum bank of 55 hoursShop, Museum Caf, and Art School discountsOnsite parking providedWorking Conditions and Atmosphere:The scheduled shifts for this position are:

  Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.Friday 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.VEAs must be able to work special events as necessary and attend training on one Tuesday per month.VEAs must be able to operate general office equipment including computer, copier, printers, fax machine, etc. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, up to 25 lbs. of general office material or equipment.The employee must be able to fulfil all Essential Duties with or without a reasonable accommodation.
