  Position Summary:

   

  The Vice President for Advancement will be responsible for providing strategic senior leadership in the design and implementation of a comprehensive capital campaign and other institutional advancement programs, including alumni relations initiatives. As a member of the executive team, the Vice President for Advancement will report to the President and work closely with other academic and administrative leadership to strengthen and significantly increase fund raising efforts that play a key role in advancing the mission and vision of Central Michigan University (CMU). The advancement function includes responsibility for capital campaigns, annual funds, corporate and foundation relations, major/principal gifts and gift planning, endowments, development operations, stewardship and alumni relations efforts.

   

  Required Qualifications:

   

  Bachelor's degree

  Eight years of fundraising or development experienceDemonstrated experience with a comprehensive capital campaign

  Leadership or managerial experience with increasing responsibility

  Ability to successfully lead, motivate and manage professional staff

  Ability to create fundraising strategies tied to the broader institutional vision and educational objectives

  Knowledge of strategies employed in all major development functions

  Proven record of fundraising success

  Demonstrated record of major gift cultivation

  Familiarity and/or experience with alumni relations programs

  Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

  Ability to promote collaboration and build positive relationships with others

  Demonstrated highly effective written and verbal communication skills

  Team player who is highly motivated, a self-starter and a dedicated professional

  Exceptional ability to build and manage teams in a large and diverse environment

  Demonstrated strong organizational skills, including ability to plan, establish priorities, and handle multiple tasks and projects

  Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal collaborations and a customer and employee service orientation in an environment committed to shared governanceUnderstands the culture of higher education or similarly complex organizationsDemonstrated ability to deliver difficult news and information with compassion, understanding and kindnessDemonstrated ability to exercise problem-solving and decision-making skills

  Demonstrated commitment to service, support of the academic mission, and continued advancement of the university in research, teaching and serviceMust be able to work nights and weekendsAbility to perform the essential functions and requirements of the job, with or without accommodation

   

  Preferred Qualifications:

   

  Master's degree

  Working knowledge of the philanthropic community

  Experience in fundraising for higher education

  Serves as a member of the executive leadership team.Provides strategic direction for the academic, research, and public service mission of the university and maintains a strong working relationship with the president and key senior leaders.
