About Vice President - Research - Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals

  Duties: Prepare research reports and monitor news flows on related companies and sectors in Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals. Prepare and publish company specific detailed equity research reports including earnings estimates and stock recommendations of companies under coverage. Monitor and analyze company and sector-specific news and events. Prepare and publish deep dive analysis on clinical trial data, competitive landscape in a therapeutic area and healthcare related policies. Perform financial and valuation analysis of covered companies and their industries as well as related “food chain” effects. Build and maintain complex financial models, utilizing historical financial information, generate multi-year annual projected financial statements of stocks under coverage. Perform financial analysis on companies under coverage like cash flow analysis, liquidity assessment, return on investment coupled with future growth prospects. Utilize dividend discount model, discounted cash flow, and other valuation approaches including sum of the parts approach to derive at stock valuation and relative return potential. Analyze customer and supplier trends to project future earnings and cash flow trajectory. Perform literature research on disease epidemiology, patient penetration and drug pricing. Build financial models to evaluate strategic corporate actions including M&A accretion/dilution and leveraged buyouts. Conduct surveys and talk to industry KOLs about new technologies, new drug product launches, regulatory guidance, market share dynamics and demand trends. Attend conferences to collect newest clinical trial data, discuss on novel therapeutic agents, understand emerging technologies and trends and analyze implications for the sector. Interpret data affecting companies, stocks and industries, including items such as clinical trial outcome, drug price, healthcare policy, future trends in investment risks, and economic influences. Analyze/interpret impact of changes in economic policy such as tax rates, currency exchange rates, interest rates, etc. on covered companies and the sector in general. Analyze clinical trial outcome including both efficacy and safety to understand risk/benefit profile of a drug product and inform competitiveness of the product upon regulatory approval. Monitor and analyze the impact changes in economic policy/political environment have on the sector. Provide investment recommendation to clients taking into account clinical trial data, pipeline development, market growth and key milestones. Monitor fundamental economic, industrial, and corporate developments through the analysis of information obtained from financial publications and services, government agencies, trade publications, company sources, and personal interviews. Conduct telephone and in-person interviews with management of covered companies on an ongoing basis. Monitor and analyze publications impacting the sector. Lead and organize company specific non-deal road shows and investor meetings. Recommend investments and investment timing to investors, including short-term trading strategies, as appropriate. Recommend investments and timing to investors in the sector. Utilize valuation tools to assign 12-month target prices as well as BUY/SELL/HOLD ratings to stocks under coverage universe. Advise clients on both long-term valuation as well as near term trading strategies using historical trading patterns. Evaluate and compare the relative quality of various securities in a coverage universe. Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on companies under coverage. Compare relative valuation using financial modeling and macro-economic back drop to recommended investments and investment timing to investors. Analyze competitive landscape in a therapeutic area based on drug mechanism of action, preclinical and clinical data, development program timeline and marketing strategy. Collaborate with credit rating agencies to study company’s balance sheet strength and liquidity position. Communicate investment theses to internal constituents (sales & trading) and institutional investor clients. Prepare and present investment theses on stocks under coverage to institutional clients. Relay investment thesis to internal sales and trading teams. Present sector/company specific research in industry events and investor conferences both within US and internationally. Prepare and present relevant information to institutional investor clients on as-requested basis. Perform ad hoc analysis, like clinical trial outcome, drug prescription data, cash flow, balance sheet strength, earnings grow rate on as requested basis. Direct junior analysts on the team to perform client specific ad hoc requests. Routinely participate and lead investor meetings to discuss investment recommendation/sector trends, etc. Present written and oral analysis of complex financial information and strategic options at client meetings, conferences, seminars and board meetings. Contribute to new client development by creating publications, client presentations, coordinating conferences and seminars as required by management as well as through maintaining a regular dialogue with clients. Recruit, train and mentor junior associates for the research desk.Requirements: Requires PhD in Chemical Engineering, Business Administration, Finance or related field of study, and 1 year of experience as Associate, Consultant, Analyst or related jobs in a quantitative field in Finance, Business or related field. Experience specified must include 1 year of experience with each of the following: research, explaining market events utilizing quantitative and analytical skills; MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint); financial modeling; and utilizing general accounting and finance principles. Telecommuting may be permitted within a commutable distance from the worksite in accordance with company policy.
