The Vice President will partner with the senior executive team to develop the strategy and comprehensive business plan for the energy and utilities organization. The Vice President reports directly to Executive Vice President and will be responsible for overseeing and managing operations, by providing oversight, direction and support to the engineering design, construction management, and project management teams. This position requires at least 15 years of progressive leadership experience in project management, engineering design or construction management in the electric and gas utility industry.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to perform needed operational responsibilities to lead the department. This job requires a high energy level with a focus on supporting estimating and providing leadership on bid package development, planning, directing, or coordinating activities concerned with the engineering design and project management for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects related to transmission and distribution lines, substations, compressor stations, pipelines, and other gas and electric facilities and systems. The VP will lead, oversee, and participate in the conceptual development of projects and oversee the organization, scheduling, budgeting, and execution. This position will ensure that the energy and utilities team achieve the profit and growth goals while meeting client expectations and delivering projects on time and within budget.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Promote the company’s services to existing and potential clients to maximize resource utilization and provide an avenue for sustainable profit growth.
Responsible for advising the Executive Vice President on business development and corporate planning issues that impact the operations of the department.
Oversees and manages energy and utilities related (gas, electric, renewables) design and build activities in accordance with industry best practices.
Provide strategic leadership and vision for the team.
Direct activities of assigned personnel to ensure the client deliverables are understood and achieved within schedule and budget.
Provide oversight and participate in the conceptual development of projects and oversee the associated organization, scheduling, budgeting, and execution.
Build an organizational culture in which passion for continuous improvement is expected. For example:
Identify opportunities and areas for improvement across the department to enhance the operational systems, processes and controls, and policies in support of department’s mission.
Improve management reporting, document and information control, business processes, organizational planning, and training.
Improve the bridging of accounting and project management.
Establish short-term and long-term strategic objectives and goals that are aggressive, yet achievable, and aligned with the goals of the company.
Develop and implement key performance indicators that drive the right behaviors and emphasize accountability while providing line of sight into cost management, productivity, labor utilization, and efficiency.
Become a key member of the senior management team representing the company at industry conferences, meetings with government agencies, and events hosted by other stakeholder groups.
Ensure that all projects meet safety standards in accordance with OSHA, state regulations and other industry best practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required.
At least 15 years of progressive industry experience including five (5) years of senior leadership with large scopes in project management, business operations, EPC contract services in the energy and utilities industry working with operational revenue exceeding 20 million dollars and full P&L responsibility.
An undergraduate degree in engineering or other industry related fields required and an MBA or equivalent experience preferred. PE license is a plus.
In-depth knowledge of the energy and utilities industry and relevant current events.
Seasoned leader with extensive business experience, with broad and deep functional expertise.
Technical acumen – deep understanding of electric and gas transmission and distribution, electrical substations, and/or other related systems and facilities
Regional office management experience is a plus.
Effectively handle stressful situations and deadline pressures.
Strong communication skills.
Experience working in a fast paced and collaborative environment.
Detail-oriented with a bias for action and results.
Promote a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Periodic travel will be necessary.
