Reports to Chief Legal and Administrative Officer and Corporate Secretary
The VP Insurance & Risk Management has primary responsibility for providing adequate insurance coverage for the organization's properties and organizational exposures, as well as overseeing the organizations comprehensive insurance and risk management program, assessing, and identifying risks that could impede the reputation, safety, security, or financial success of the organization.

Ensuring the efficient execution of strategies, controls, and measures to monitor and mitigate risks exposure of assets.
Oversee the management and activity of the captive insurance company.
Work with regulators, auditors, and actuaries to lead the captive through required compliance and analysis.
Develop and oversee a workers’ compensation initiative for reducing claim costs.
Conduct risk assessments, collecting and analyzing documentation, statistics, reports and market trends.
Set up risk metrics including insurance limits and model parameters; manage risk according to the risk management framework and governance.
Implement risk management solutions such as insurance, safety and security policies, business continuity plans, or recovery measures.
Drafts and presents risk reports and proposals to executive leadership and senior staff.
Working with General Counsel and Outside Legal counsel with regards to Claims and Lawsuits
Identify and evaluate business area risks and elevates concerns to the Executive Leadership Team.
Direct the defense on behalf of the company entities at WC Board and Commission Hearings.
Leads Risk Management team, working together to ensure communication is open and transparent, across all departments, to achieve the company’s strategic goals.
Oversee OSHA readiness policies and coordinate responses to OSHA inquiries and inspections.
Compliance & Analysis
Establish policies and procedures to identify and address risks in the organization services and departments.
Ensure the risk management policies and initiatives are compliant with applicable regulations and aligned with the global organizational objectives, implementing modifications and improvements.
Risk treatment by selecting and implementing measures to control and mitigate risks including activities to avoid risks, transfer risks and finance risks.
Oversight of claims and loss control activities and analyzing loss runs and budgets.
Manage insurance claim filings on all insurance policies.
Facilitate with all inquiries from operations on claim filing processes.
Assist with annual policy renewals by collecting necessary exposure information and data.
Conduct audits of vendor and subcontractor insurance services and compliance to company standards and minimum requirements.
Risk evaluation which involves comparing estimated risks with risk criteria established by the organization such as insurance costs, legal requirements, and environmental factors.
Review and make necessary changes to insurance provisions in contracts, agreements and proposals that contradict company insurance coverage, requires obligations that can’t be insured or puts the company at undue risk.
This individual is accountable to the executive leadership team to assess risk and reward as it pertains to operations compliance and insurable risks.
Responsible for directing the purchase of insurance programs, identifying exposures, recommending solutions, and monitoring compliance with insurance procedures.
Manage relationships with third party service providers including brokers and insurers.
Work with leadership throughout the organization.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 20+ years working with property casualty insurance programs and leading risk management initiatives.
Technical experience specifically with Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Auto, and Property insurance.
Must understand and have worked on management liability, employment practices liability, cyber liability.
Expertise with managing brokers and service providers.
Development and maintenance of various size, types and structures of insurance programs.
Understanding of various risk financing alternatives.
Experience managing and overseeing strategic initiatives.
Experience managing staff and setting and monitoring objectives.
Understanding of purpose and needs for collateral as well as experience negotiating collateral.
Claims expertise – technical skills of various claims management techniques, especially for workers’ compensation, to impact expenses and results.
Ability to write and review insurance language for various types of contracts.
Skills to oversee and coordinate due diligence for the additional of communities, new development and terminations.
Experience working with and having responsibility for budgets.
Understands financial statements.
Ability to clearly communicate with executive leadership team and owners.
Understanding of Canada insurance, a plus.
