About Vehicle Maintenance Manager

  DescriptionVehicle Maintenance Managers are responsible for the management of the vehicle maintenance staff at a facility. This position manages the facility's maintenance function in order to maintain a safe, reliable, and cost-effective fleet of vehicles and/or equipment, and an adequate supply of containers. Managers hire, train, coach, evaluate, counsel, and manage the performance of the facility's maintenance staff with an emphasis on safety and productivity. The hours and physical demand may vary by location.Responsibilities of Position:Manages the maintenance staff, including hiring, training, scheduling work assignments, performance management, discipline, and authorization of overtime.Regularly communicates with operations and others regarding the status of fleet vehicles, containers and/or other equipment.Controls maintenance costs relating to personnel, purchasing, inventory control, and outsourcing of repairs. Works with controller and participate in budget process.Identifies trends in road calls, break downs, and shop hours and respond appropriately.Maintains an ongoing preventive maintenance program to ensure vehicle safety and operating efficiency.Trains and directs employees to improve their overall performance.Monitors and enforces quality and safety standards and ensures all compliance goals are met or exceeded.Ensures completion of daily duties and ensures that all productivity goals are met or exceeded.Performs and conducts performance evaluations, monitor and track employee attendance, complete disciplinary actions/meetings.Maintains proper records and files including all compliance.Maintains a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, employees, and managers.Conducts investigations for accidents and injuries.Conducts employee observations to ensure safety and procedures are being followed.Prepares and submits/presents accurate and timely reports as needed.Performs other duties as assigned by management.Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:Knowledge of OSHA and DOT.Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications, AS400, and Lotus Notes applications a plus.Must be able to work independently, make decisions, prioritize work, and resolve problems.Excellent verbal & written communication skills.Experience with maintaining parts inventory.Familiarity with the use of repair manuals, electrical wiring, and schematics necessary to troubleshoot.Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.Exposure to residential and commercial waste.Ability to travel between offices, as required.Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.Legally eligible to work in the United States.Valid driver's license (if applicable).Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.Must be able to read and speak the English language.This job description is intended to describe the general nature, complexity, and level of work to be performed by employees assigned to this position and is not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties and/or skills required.
