  Job Title: Utility Maintenance Employee

  Department: Facilities Management

  Reports To: Custodial Supervisor

  Job Summary: The Utility Maintenance Employee is responsible for performing various maintenance tasks to ensure the efficient operation and upkeep of the facility. This includes electrical work, grounds upkeep, air conditioning and heating systems maintenance, furniture, and equipment moving, painting, carpentry work, plumbing, janitorial and custodial duties, and other related responsibilities. The individual in this role will work under the supervision of the Custodial Supervisor and collaborate with other team members to meet the facility's maintenance needs.

  KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The successful candidate will be required to join National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET) Local 51.

  Salary Range: $36.00-$49.00 per hour

  Duties and Responsibilities:

   

  Electrical Work:

  Install light fixtures six feet in length or less.

  Repair lamps and heaters.

  Replace bulbs, ballasts, light fixtures, switches, and outlets, and perform other minor electrical work as needed.

  Grounds Upkeep:

  Trim hedges and trees to maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance.

  Perform other related duties to ensure the cleanliness and attractiveness of outdoor areas.

  Air Conditioning and Heating Systems:

  Operate heating and air conditioning systems and related stationary motors.

  Change filters and perform basic maintenance tasks.

  Utilize computer-based HVAC system controls as required.

  Furniture and Equipment Moving:

  Move typewriters, desks, chairs, file cabinets, bookcases, storage cabinets, trash cans, lamps, partitions, and other office equipment.

  Assist with the rearrangement of furniture and equipment as requested.

  Painting:

  Prepare surfaces for painting, including taping and priming.

  Apply finishing coats and perform other related painting tasks.

  Carpentry Work:

  Install, remove, and repair sheetrock, non-motorized or non-acoustic doors, floor tiles, ceiling tiles, and carpeting.

  Assemble, disassemble, and repair bookcases, shelves, tables, and similar items.

  Plumbing:

  Repair faucets, wash basins, drinking fountains, toilets, and other plumbing fixtures.

  Perform basic plumbing maintenance tasks as necessary.

  Janitorial and Custodial:

  Strip and mop tile and linoleum floors.

  Clean and shampoo carpets.

  Polish floors and perform routine maintenance on floor surfaces.

  Vacuum floors and upholstery.

  Dust furniture and surfaces.

  Wash windows.

  Clean parking lots and remove trash from the grounds.

  Fulfill other janitorial and custodial duties to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards.

  Other Duties:

  Set up audience and meeting spaces, arranging tables, chairs, ashtrays, lecterns, easels, and other required items.

  Assist with warehouse operations, including moving items to and from storage areas.

  Contribute to building security by following established protocols.

  Provide minimal repositioning of tables and chairs for events as directed by caterers and event planners.

  Qualifications:

  High school diploma or equivalent.

  Demonstrated experience and proficiency in performing maintenance tasks, including electrical work, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and janitorial duties.

  Knowledge of safety guidelines and procedures related to maintenance tasks.

  Ability to operate relevant equipment and tools safely and efficiently.

  Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

  Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects.

  Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
