  The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) is currently seeking a Utility Craftsman to join our team in Salmon, Idaho.

  This position is considered a journey construction worker involved in all aspects of inside and outside heavy construction and building trades type work. This is not a maintenance position. Applicants should have a good background in all aspects of construction and trades work.

  General Information:

  This position will require travel away from home for extended periods of time.

  Work in all weather conditions, and/or wear a respirator for prolonged periods of time.

  This position also involves, with or without reasonable accommodation, physical activities associated with construction work such as lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 100 pounds. Bending and stooping. Working at heights of up to approximately 50 feet.

  Responsibilities:

  Construct buildings, storage sheds, garages, bridges, in-stream structures, and similar facilities and structures.

  Remodel offices and buildings by building walls, installing sheetrock and siding, painting and any other duty required to complete the project.

  Operate equipment such as front-end loader, backhoe, excavator, dozer, dump truck, tractor/trailer transport, forklift, roller, cranes, and scissors trucks.

  Designs fish screens and irrigation gates to be built or fabricated.

  Lay out, cut, weld, and fabricate steel plates, angle, channel, pipe, and beams.

  Read plans and blueprints; use transit and level and run stakes for surveys.

  Build concrete forms, and place, finish, and repair concrete.

  Build and remodel wooden structures and special carpentry items.

  Maintain and repair plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems and pump stations, pipes, sinks, lavatories, septic tanks and electrical wiring, lights, ballasts, switches, and receptacles.

  Keep records and reports on progress of projects, function as lead worker over project assistants.

  Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required.)

  Good knowledge of construction and building trades work. (Typically gained by at least four years of experience (journey-level) in the construction trade of carpentry or concrete AND have knowledge, education, or experience in two other construction trade skills areas (i.e. electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or related.)

  Experience operating and maintaining equipment associated with construction and building trades and grounds maintenance (Typically gained by experience operating light equipment such as trucks, mowers, tractors, or farm equipment, and experience performing normal maintenance like checking the oil, water, fluids, and servicing on such equipment as listed above).

  Experience placing and finishing concrete, performing rough and finish carpentry, performing maintenance plumbing, performing maintenance electrical work, reading/interpreting plans, and blueprints. (Typically gained by four years of experience in residential or commercial construction in carpentry or concrete at the journey level.)

  Experience using and maintaining construction and building trades hand and power tools. (Typically gained by experience using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools commonly associated with construction trades.)

  Minimum Qualification Specialty Areas: (These qualifications are required for the current opening at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.)

  Possess a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement OR possess a valid driver's license and be willing to obtain a Class "A" CDL with an air brake endorsement within the first six months (entrance probation) of hire.

  Experience operating heavy excavation type equipment such as dozer, grader, excavators, backhoes, front end loaders, and dump trucks. (Typically gained by at least one year of experience operating this type of equipment).

  Some knowledge of the welding trade. (Typically gained by successful completion of a specific training in welding at a high school, vo-tech school, or equivalent level OR at least six months of work experience that included laying out, cutting, fabricating, and welding various types of steel.)
