The N921 Command Priorities Department, part of the Intelligence Center, helps the Combatant Command Intelligence Directorates (J2) mitigate critical gaps and shortfalls, identify relevant emerging technologies, and create advanced solutions to address mission challenges.
Roles and Responsibilities:
In this role, you will serve as a Lead Data Scientist, working to resolve the most difficult mission challenges faced by USAFRICOM Joint Intelligence Command Africa (JICAF) military and civilian staff. Qualified candidates will have a strong Combatant Command or Intelligence Community background with demonstrated technical experience in more than one of the following areas: the development of advanced applications to support the intelligence cycle, recent and relevant analytic development in support of intelligence requirements, and first-hand familiarizations of tools and capabilities available and in use across the intelligence community (on multiple classification domains). As a data scientist you will serve as a member of a team of MITRE professionals focused on improving the intelligence production cycle of the USAFRICOM JICAF and be required to:
Interact with JICAF leadership to help shape strategic direction to modernize intelligence analysis in order to support the Commander priorities
Deliver impactful solutions to specific tasks as defined by USAFRICOM JICAF leadership, our USAFRICOM J2 project lead, and N921 department leadership
Build and maintain a strong understanding of analytic capabilities and tools available via the Combat Support Agencies, Services, Combatant Command Components, and commercial vendors to facilitate objective evaluation and capability assessment for application to USAFRICOM-specific challenges
When appropriate, write software to execute data analytics, prototype integration opportunities and demonstrate application feasibility
Maintain effective and responsive communications with your project leader, group leader and N921 leadership
Basic Requirements:
Active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to maintain and obtain a Polygraph
Due to the lengthy clearance process, candidates without an existing TS/SCI clearance cannot be considered for this opening.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years of related experience; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or 3 years and a PhD; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Recent (less than 5 year) data science software development experience
A strong understanding of intelligence support to Combatant Command leadership, the organizations of the Intelligence community, and their responsibilities in support of intelligence collection, analysis, processing, and dissemination in order to support Commander priorities
Experience directly supporting and operating independently for a sponsor
Preferred Qualifications:
Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
Master’s degree in Computer Science (or related science, technology, engineering, or math field)
Strong knowledge of intelligence processes and systems in use or relied upon by a Combatant Command J2
Recent experience with systems, tools, datasets, and/or processes involved in Intelligence Community or Combatant Command intelligence production
Prior experience supporting the requirements of CCMD or Component Intelligence Operations Experience in multiple types of software development (data science, web applications, desktop applications, large applications/systems, etc.)
Relevant and robust professional network
Demonstrated proficiency in verbal, written, presentation, and communications skills
